For showing me the magical world of the Monarch Butterflies
Lizzie is a Monarch Butterfly who lives in Washington. Right now it is September, and the weather is starting to get too cold for Lizzie. She must fly to a warmer place where she can find food and a sunny place to live.
All the butterflies around Lizzie are getting ready to leave Washington, but Lizzie doesn’t know where she is going to fly to! Lizzie’s friend Bobby said that he is going to San Diego, California.
Lizzie decided to fly with Bobby to San Diego, California. The two butterflies began their journey early one cold morning.
Washington
While they were flying Lizzie smelled smoke. “What is that smell?” she asked Bobby. “It is the smoke coming from the volcano Mount St. Helens here in Washington. We are flying right over it!” Bobby replied. The volcano was very scary to fly over and Lizzie wanted to keep flying before they got hurt.
After many hours of flying Lizzie and Bobby flew out of Washington and into Oregon. Lizzie was tired so they decided to find a place to rest. The butterflies got very excited when they flew over a zoo and found lots of the zoo butterflies to stay with.
The next day Lizzie and Bobby left their new friends to continue their journey. Suddenly there was a huge dark blue lake below them. Both butterflies were curious about this beautiful lake so they decided to fly closer for a better look.
Bobby found a sign that called the lake Crater Lake. The two butterflies were both amazed by the lake. They got a drink from the lake and then continued their journey.
As soon as the butterflies made it to California they saw trees that were as high up as they were! “It’s like a forest in the sky!” Lizzie said. The trees were very large and so beautiful to look at. “They are called Redwood trees. They are thousands of years old,” said Bobby. The two butterflies wanted to stay in the trees, but they also wanted to visit the ocean so they kept flying.
While flying through California, Bobby and Lizzie flew over many exciting places. They flew over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and their Monarch Butterfly friends in Pismo Beach.
One of Lizzie and Bobby’s favorite places was Disneyland. They loved flying around the park and looking at all the fun rides!
Lizzie and Bobby were close to San Diego so they decided it was time for them to finish their journey. When they flew into San Diego they felt how warm the weather was. “I really like it here. It is so warm and beautiful,” said Lizzie. The two butterflies saw all the other butterflies that had flown to San Diego just like they had.
Lizzie and Bobby spent the rest of their time in San Diego flying around the beaches and enjoying the nice warm weather. It had been a long journey for Lizzie. She loved all the places she had seen and she would never forget her journey.
The End.
My name is Emily Blair. I was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, California and I currently live in San Luis Obispo, California. When I was in second grade my aunt and uncle took me to Victoria, Canada where we visited the BuEerfly Gardens. I remember seeing hundreds of Monarch BuEerflies. I thought they were the most beauHful buEerflies I had ever seen. I quickly learned all that I could about the Monarch BuEerflies. This trip is what inspired me to write this story.
