Fourth Sunday of Easter (B)!

SAINT PETER: EXAMPLE FOR ALL!

! What an extraordinary example we have in the person of

Saint Peter. On this Good Shepherd Sunday it is fitting that the

first reading draws our attention to the “rock.” The scene de-

picted in the reading from the Acts of the Apostles contains an

example that can be useful to all of us, whether ordained or lay.

Notice that after the miracle of the curing of the crippled person,

Peter immediately turns everyone’s attention not to himself, but

to the Lord Jesus Christ. This is what we are called to do when

we experience the presence of God in the struggles of our own

Christian journeys. Like Saint Peter, we can let other people

know that it is only through the power of Christ within each of us

that we are able to embrace the cross and experience the pow-

er of the Lord’s resurrection.!

ROOTED IN BAPTISM!

! Today gives us the opportunity to take the time to pray

for those who lead us in ordained ministry. In this time of crisis

in the Church, our bishops, deacons, and priests need our sup-

port as they continue to embrace their vocation to do as Saint

Peter didto point others to the Lord. Since all vocations are

rooted in the sacrament of baptism, it is good for us to remem-

ber that it was at the moment of our baptism that we became

Christ for others. Each of us is called to become more and

more like the Good Shepherd as we learn to live out our baptis-

mal call. As we make our way along the Christian journey, we

need nourishment and guidance from those appointed to be our

shepherds. We need to pray that God will strengthen those

who have become weary. On this Good Shepherd Sunday, let

us pray especially for the ordained and all those called to point

us to the Lord.!

Today’s Readings: Acts 4:8!12; Psalm 118:1, 8!9, 21!23, 26, 28, 29; 1 John 3:1!2; John

GOOD SHEPHERD! ! !

Sharing the Gospel!

!Without a good shepherd to lead them, sheep would get lost. Without a good shepherd to protect them, sheep would get hurt. A good shepherd would even die, just to keep his sheep safe. Jesus is your good shepherd, and you are his precious little lamb. When you get lost, Jesus comes to find you. When you are in danger, Jesus comes to comfort you. Listen to the voice of Jesus. Spend time reading the Bible every day. He wants to lead you to life with God. He wants to protect you from sin. Jesus gave up his life just to save you. Jesus is your good shepherd.!
