1 Sunday, October 27, 2019 - Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
A Big Thank You to Everyone! On behalf of the OMOS Parish Community, I’d like to express my heartfelt THANKS to the Parish Fiesta
Committee and everyone who sacrificed, helped and contributed to the overwhelming success of our Annual
Parish Fiesta. I am also grateful for the support and participation of our parish members and all visitors who came
and enjoyed the beautiful and fun-filled evenings we had. The food was to die for! Thank you to all who
dedicated themselves to satisfy our cravings. The entertainment for all three nights were perfect for all of us
sitting down and enjoying our camaraderie. Exciting games and Bingo had everybody kicking and shouting. The
white elephant event was a unique place for me to watch and observe. Overall, it was a sight to behold seeing
everyone smiling, talking, laughing and eating as a family and even more so as a community. I saw humanity at
its best unfolding. And we are not being reported on the main stream media that there is so much love and
acceptance among each other - that life is beautiful and families are still vibrant and dynamic. This is the very
objective of the Parish Fiesta - to create an atmosphere of friendship and love, to make our parish community
more of a family. I enjoyed watching as you were hopping from one table to another, shaking hands and
embracing one another. Being a first timer, I really salute the parishioners of OMOS for having this annual
tradition. Yes, this entails a lot of work, commitment and dedication but don’t you know that anything of value
demands a lot of sacrifice?! Our parish deserves all the sacrifice that we can give. Let’s continue doing this.
Once again thank you to everyone and KUDOS to the organizing committee. This event would not be possible
without YOU!

Sirach 35:12–14, 16–18; 2 Timothy 4:6–8, 16–18;
Luke 18:9–14
“O God, be merciful to me a sinner.”
The tax collector didn’t feel worthy to be there in
the Temple, praying to the Lord. The Pharisee, who
had done everything that was expected of him, looked
down on everyone who he felt was beneath him. We
can forget that humility is as important as
righteousness.
Doing the right thing is important. But doing it in
the right spirit for the right reasons is too. The
Pharisee needed to recognize his sin of pride. It’s easy
to get caught up in the praise. It’s not wrong to be
proud of doing a good job. Crossing the line comes
when you start looking down on other people. Rather
start looking inward and examining yourself.
“We are all sinners loved by God.” That is our
pastoral theme at Our Mother of Sorrows. God knows
who we are at heart. He knows us inside out. Better
than we know ourselves.
God hears all our prayers. Spoken or not. As
Sirach says, “the prayer of the lowly pierces the
clouds; it does not rest till it reaches its goal.” And He
answers them. Maybe not what we want, but He does.
Yes, no or I’ve got something better in mind.
Even St. Paul knew that as he was in prison, “the
Lord will rescue me from every evil threat…” He will
us too.
We are worthy to keep praying for mercy. The tax
collector’s prayer is a prayer for us today. “O God, be
merciful to me a sinner.” Amen.

mejor a Dios.
Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
