Herd Health:

The bulls have been vaccinated with Express 5 and Vision

Somnus at branding, and Express 5 PHM, Vision Somnus and

Vetrimec Pour-On at weaning, and have been tested and

are ready for interstate shipment.

Semen Evaluation:All bulls will be officially semen tested by Dr. Chris Finney

of the Ainsworth Veterinary Clinic. This test includes

semen analysis for vigor, concentrations, morphology and

percentage live as well as an examination for physical

defects such as abnormal testicles and warts. Scrotal

circumferences were taken at this time. Any unsatisfactory

bulls are eliminated from the sale offering. Scrotal mea-

surements available sale day or on our website.

Free Delivery:

Arlen Sawyer will make delivery arrangements and will

assist with the care of the bulls prior to delivery.

Inspection of the Bulls:Bulls may be viewed at A&B Cattle, the Arlen and Becky

Sawyer ranch headquarters, seven miles south of Bassett,

Nebr. on Hwy. 183 at your convenience.

Lot Numbers:

Lot numbers on the bulls correspond with the numbers in

the catalog. Most bulls also carry their original herd tags.

Performance Information:

All printed EPDs in this catalog are the current 2014 EPDs as

of Feb. 27, 2014. Approximately 40% the bulls have

genomic profiles which are incorporated in their updated

EPDs available in this catalog. Scrotal measurements will

available sale day or prior to the sale on the website.

Liabilities:

All persons attending this sale do so at their own risk, and

the owner and his agents assume no liability, legal or

otherwise, for any accidents which may occur.

Terms:

These cattle sell under the suggested Terms and Conditions

of the American Angus Association which briefly state:

Terms of the sale are cash unless satisfactory credit

arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The

auctioneer will settle all disputes as to bids, and his decision

on such matters shall be final. Each animal will be at

purchaser's risk as soon as sold.

Guarantee:

All bulls, regardless of cost, are guaranteed as breeders. If

the animal proves a non-breeder, a satisfactory exchange

will be made, or credit will be given in the next sale. Buyer

must contact A&B before Sept. 1, 2014 if the bull is

Weight Trait Research ProjectThe weight trait project (WTP) began in 2009 and was designed to

study and address issues associated with the integration of DNA

technology tools for selection into beef cattle breeding programs.

This project is a joint research effort of the National Beef Cattle

Evaluation Consortium (NBCEC), U.S. Meat Animal Research Center

(MARC), seven breed associations, and universities from the

Northern Plains region. Twenty-one seedstock producers repre-

senting seven breeds from the Northern Plain states began by

collecting DNA samples on their 2008 and/or 2009 spring born

calves and their dams for this project.

2014 marks the fifth year that A&B Cattle has participated in this

research by collecting over 1500 DNA samples for weight trait,

feed efficiency, and fertility research.

Twenty-two (22) cows at A & B Cattle qualified for the 2014

Angus Pathfinder Cow Award having produced calves that have

met the rigid requirements for early calving, regularity of

calving, and a minimum nursing ratio of 105 as outlined in the

Angus Pathfinder program.

The Pathfinder Angus program was started in 1978 in an

effort to identify superior cows in the breed based on their

records of performance from Angus Herd Improvement Records

(AHIR). In identifying these superior cows, emphasis was placed

on early puberty, breeding and early calving, followed by

regularity of calving and above-average performance of the

offspring.

While outstanding cows can be identified after their first or

second calves, the Pathfinder Report requires a minimum of three

calves from a cow to determine her regularity of calving and

ability to produce superior calves for weaning weight year after

year. In addition, an important part of the report is the list of bulls

that have sired five or more qualifying females.

The Angus Pathfinder Report identifies cows that have

excelled in production based on AHIR records of performance. To

qualify for the report, a cow must have produced a calf measured

through AHIR in the past 18 months.

In addition, bulls that have sired a minimum of five or more

Pathfinder Cows are listed as Pathfinder Sires in this report.

The program identifies Pathfinder Cows in herds actively

involved in AHIR. First, the female must produce her first calf near

the herd's average age for first calving. More specifically, the

maximum age accepted for first calving of a Pathfinder Cow is the

within-herd average for first calving plus 30 days. The within-herd

average is determined separately for each herd on AHIR.

As a second criteria, the Pathfinder Cow must maintain a

regular calving interval. The maximum calving interval is:

365 Days + ( 30 Days / Number of Calving Intervals )

Next, the Pathfinder Cow must produce at least three calves

with an average weaning weight ratio of 105 to qualify for the

report. A minimum of 10 herdmates or contemporaries must be

evaluated together each year to determine the weight ratio.

Additionally, her calves must be sired by registered Angus bulls. To

continue to qualify each consecutive year, the cow must produce

regularly and wean a calf that helps maintain the average weaning

ratio of 105 or above. It is pointed out that once a cow is desig-

nated Pathfinder, she is always a Pathfinder, even though she

might not qualify for listing each year.

Of the A & B Cattle 2012 steers harvested on July 17, 2013

62.67% of them qualified for Certified Angus Beef and

Angus Pride; the group included 9% Prime carcasses, and

81% Choice carcasses. There were 77 total steers with 16

of the steers from black and BWF commercial cows, the

rest of the steers were purebred Angus calves. Carcass

data was submitted on all of the sires that were identified

in the group.

This insignia indicates that a breeder collects performance

information through the Angus Herd Improvement (AHIR)

program of the American Angus Association. A&B Cattle has

been performance testing through AHIR for the past 39 years.

For the past two years, A&B Cattle has participated in the

Maternal Plus whole herd reporting as well.

Using the A&B Performance RecordsPerformance Records are measures of individual weights and measurements taken at various times in an animal's life:

(ACT. BW) Birth Weight - the actual weight of a calf measured at birth.

(ADJ. WW) Adjusted Weaning Weight - the weaning weight of an animal adjusted to a common age of 205 days.

(ADJ. YW) Adjusted Yearling Weight - the yearling weight of an animal adjusted to a common age of 365 days.

(10/31 WT.) Actual Wt. Recorded on 10/31/13 - the on-test weight recorded before the bulls went on feed test on

our ranch. A high roughage ration consisting of ground hay and wet distillers by-product was fed to the bulls to insure

an adequate gain of about 3.25 lbs. per day while staying in good, athletic condition. Adjusted weaning weights are

based on this weight.

(2/10 WT.) Actual Wt. Recorded on 2/10/14 - the off-test weight. Adjusted yearling weights are based on this weight.

(ADG) Average Daily Gain - a computation of the average daily gain established by the bulls during the 105 day feed

test.

(ADJ. HT) Adjusted Yearling Hip Height - a measure in inches taken at the hip at a given time and can be adjusted to

a common age of 365 days. This figure can be translated into a frame score. An adjusted hip height of 48.8 inches =

Frame Score 5; 51.0 inches = Frame Score 6; and 53.0 = Frame Score 7.

$Values - are multi-trait selection indexes expressed in dollars per head, to assist commercial beef producers by

adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. A $Value has meaning only when used in comparison to the $Value

of another animal.

($W)eaning - the expected average difference in future progeny performance based on four primary economic

impact areas: birth weight, weaning weight, maternal milk, and mature cow size compared to the progeny of other

sires.

($F)eedlot - the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning performance com-

pared to progeny of other sires.

($B)eef - the expected average difference in future progeny performance for post weaning and carcass value com-

pared to progeny of other sires. The $B value combines the contributions of feedlot and grid values.

Actual Scrotal Circumference - a testicle measurement in centimeters taken by Dr. Chris Finney, Ainsworth Veteri-
