94.7, KTWV, THE WAVE BECAUSE LIFE’S TOO SHORT FOR ORDINARY MUSIC!
THE WAVE
94.7 KTWV Southern California is not an
ordinary place to be. We are on the leading edge of entertainment, culture and industry. The world looks to Southern California when it wants new trends in food, clothing, cars and restaurants. Luckily the trend-setters of Los Angeles and Orange Counties have a radio station that reflects their unique tastes — 94.7, KTWV, The WAVE. The WAVE plays music you won't hear anywhere else on the radio dial. We create a listening environment that fits right in with your personal and business life. So if you're driving around and spot our billboards featuring the distinctive WAVE logo and the phrase "Because life's too
short for ordinary music", make sure you explain to the person next to you what it means — that finally there's a radio station as extraordinary as you are.
WORDS OF PRAISE When we asked readers of
the "Musicletter" to describe KTWV in their own words, we received some pleasingly insightful responses:
' 'A p/ace to go to expand your musical tastes" — salesperson, Pomona.
"The radio station for smart

and special people, with music that you won't hear anywhere else" — economist, Woodland Hills.
"Music that is very accessible, not rough, loud or noisy" — stock clerk, Glendale.
"Creative, innovative and mellow" — mother, Los Angeles.
"A unique blend of music that energizes and relaxes at the some time" — student, Gardena.
"Great air personalities that don't make themselves more important than the music — graphic artist, Fullerton.
"irritation free broadcasting" — photographer, Venice.
Thanks to those of you who shared your descriptions of The WAVE with us. If you haven't yet done so, why not answer the questions on "The WAVE Would Like To Know..." page inside this issue? Your feedback is appreciated and is a key ingredient in KTWV's continual upward evolution.
DON'T FORGET! Make sure you look inside
this issue for an updated listing of all the performers involved in "The WAVE's 1990 Concert Series". Don't miss out on your chance to win free tickets and experience WAVE music performed live!

MICHAEL FRANKS
At 46, Michael Franks has carved himself a niche in popular music His soothing vocals, accompanied by his insightful^ lyrics, have generated a loya; following both here and abroad. It's been three years since Michael's lost recorded etfor and his fans might oe wondering what happened to him. There's good news repod. Michael Franks hos □ new album cailea '"Blue Pacific'' on Werner- Reprise Records. Franks dropped by KTWV's studios fora conversation with The WAVE s David Hirsch
Q: Why did it take three years between recards?
FRANKS: 1 started working on a Broadway show. When I started thought I’d only lake a year ah to get it completed. Was I ever wrong.
The show is based or the life of the famous French painter Gauguin, it was a great project. 11 was really challenging and creatively inspiring to work on. I wrote over 30 songs for it. The road to Broadway is tong and complicated and hopefully well get it produced soon.
Q: Where do you live?
FRANKS: The west cocst of Florida. I'm □ native Californian, originally from San Diego, lived here in Southern California until I graduated Horn UCLA., men I went to graduate school back East and lived in New York City tor eight years. We recently moved to Florida, but I still keep o place in New York.
Q; Why did you move to Florida?
FRANKS: It's really beautiful there, it's a small town with a ct at ecologically concerned people. My wife and I volunteer at a w’ldlife sanctuary. Injured seabirds ana aYmais are brought in and we help get them healthy. I do very simplistic work, cleanout the cages ard help out. I also give some of my attention to the dolph'ns that live near us. here are a lot of problems with the way that humans and dolphins interact. I help make people aware of what they can do to give the dolphins a break. I feel great about being able to do something for my community and see actual results.
Q: Is activism and community involvement an important port of your life?
FRANKS: Having gone through the '60 's, I grew up with the be ief ■hat you could make a difference.! guess in the YO's and '80 s oeople gotdepressed because the problems seemed overwhelming. Now ""'blink many people are coming to the realization that you can't really change anything except your own situation. If everybody mikes responsibility for their own actions 'he world will become a better place.
Q: Would you like to add anything else?
FRANKS: Only a thank-you to The WAVE. I was visiting out here awhile back. I had hurt myself preparing far a race. I'm a runner and twisted my ankle. I wos nobbling along ’he beach and saw The WAVE trash cans. They really heTo keep the beach dean. You guys are doing a good job.
