Dear Parish Family,
The prophets often spoke bluntly, whether addressing the people
God of seducing and overpowering him, making him speak a word that has led to his ridicule and persecution. He was even
of his preaching! Jeremiah confesses he has no choice in the matter. When he refuses to
in his heart, consuming his very bones. The cost of drawing near to the living God can take us down a path we would rather
to speak of the suffering that lay ahead, instead of being the powerful Messiah people had been waiting for, who would cast down their enemies and restore Israel to the glory days of King David. Instead, Jesus spoke about taking up the cross, losing one’s life, or, in Paul’s words to the Romans, becoming
God’s plan for us is the transformation and
of God’s Son Jesus. This transformation comes about when we “offer [our] bodies as a living sacrifice,” seeking to discern and do God’s will as Jesus did. Such self-offering may lead to our following Jesus on the way: finding life by losing it for the sake of others, and coming to
water, and nourishing food for our spirit. —James A. Wallace, C.Ss.R. Copyright © 2012, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

PREPARATION FOR SACRAMENTS
First Communion is a two year process that typically begins in the 1st grade and ends at the end of the 2nd grade with a First Communion Mass. Children should attend Mass every Sunday to participate in the sacramental life of the church. In addition, there are Sacramental Sundays to help the children learn about reconciliation and the Eucharist. Also, children are asked to miss no more than one CCE class a school year in order to be prepared for the sacrament.
Out of Sequence First Communion is a two year process for baptized children that have begun preparation for First Communion after 1st grade. There are additional sessions after the end of regular CCE to prepare an Out of Sequence child to receive First Communion.
Confirmation preparation requires two years of preparation, but teens can take up to four years, if needed. This preparation usually begins in the 9th grade. Preparation includes weekly attendance at Sunday Mass, attendance at two confirmation retreats, all
with Confirmation, and weekly CCE attendance. Students who attend Catholic high schools are to attend the first scheduled CCE class of each month as well as all the other components listed above. The youth are asked to miss no more than one CCE class per school year. Sponsors and/or the candidate’s parents are asked to attend some classes and an Evening of Reflection to help the youth grow closer to Christ.

Mission Statement
We, the Catholic community of Holy Rosary, Rosenberg, under the patronage of Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary, are bonded together by a common belief in Jesus Christ and our commitment to His teachings. We, as a community of believers, are called to proclaim the Gospel, to be witness and sign of God’s Kingdom on earth and to work for our salvation. Mindful of our Patroness, Mary, and her example as parent, teacher and intercessor, we are committed to accomplish this mission through service, education, prayer and celebration of the Eucharist.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
St. Francis of Assisi once said, “Remember, you are what you are in the eyes of God, and nothing else.” We often forget this stewardship wisdom when we
spend all of our time, talent and treasure to gain more of the world’s riches. We need to
set our priorities based on God’s values and not the values of the material world.
ARE YOU REGISTERED?
“I’ve attended this church for years.” But, have you registered? If you were registered under your parents’ name but are now an adult, you also need to register. Parish Registration forms may be picked up in the back of church or at the church office; or

RELIGION DEFINED I do not know how philosophers may ultimately define religion; but from Micah to James it has been defined as service to one’s fellow human rendered by following the great rule of justice
and mercy, of wisdom and righteousness. —Theodore Roosevelt
WORD OF LIFE “The sufferings caused by chronic or terminal illness
cry out for our compassion, a word whose root meaning is to ‘suffer with’ another person. True
compassion alleviates suffering while maintaining solidarity with those who suffer. It does not put lethal
drugs in their hands and abandon them.” -USCCB, “To Live Each Day with Dignity: A Statement on Assisted Suicide,” ©2011,

FOLLOWING CHRIST If you’ve ever had an unpleasant but somewhat amusing practical joke played on you, then you have some understanding of how Jeremiah feels today when he tells God “good one - you duped me.” We can almost see him shaking his
in his voice. In similar fashion, Peter thinks Jesus is “duping” him when Jesus starts to explain that being Messiah means suffering and dying, and being a follower of the Messiah means taking up a cross and doing the same. Jeremiah tries to deny God’s will for him by trying to shut up; Peter - who has just been made the foundation of the church - out and out denies the teaching of Jesus, for which he is named “Satan” today. Fortunately for us, Jeremiah comes to realize that to have the word of God placed in your heart means that it will be futile to try and keep silent, even if it means scorn and derision from those around you. Luckily, Peter ultimately returned to the faith he professed in last week’s Gospel, and came to understand
even when it means following Him to our very death. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
