Problem Sheet 6: Sampling Plan 1. My research question is Does the use of peer tutoring improve math scores? 2. My intended sample (participants in my study) consists of (state who and how many): _______ The participants in my study consist of 60 out of 120 sixth grade students. .____________________________________________ __________ 3. Key demographics (characteristics of the sample) are as follows (e.g., age range, sex, distribution, ethnic breakdown, socioeconomic status, location [where are these subjects located?], etc.): Age range- 11-12 year old students Sex distribution- 30 males 30 females Ethnic breakdown- Caucasians, African Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans Socioeconomic status- students from low, middle and high SES levels Location- Lauderdale County, Alabama 4. State what type of sample you plan to use (i.e., convenience, purposive, simple random, stratified random, cluster, systematic). Simple random sample 5. I will gain access to and/or get contact information for my sample through the following steps: I will randomly assign numbers to students and then send home contact information to be filled out and returned. The students will be identified by number only. 6. What, if any, are the inclusion/exclusion criteria for participation in your study:

Problem Sheet 6: Sampling Plan

Problem Sheet 6: Sampling Plan1. My research question is Does the use of peer tutoring improve math scores?2. My intended sample (participants in my study) consists of (state who and how many): _______The participants in my study consist of 60 out of 120 sixth grade students. .______________________________________________________

3. Key demographics (characteristics of the sample) are as follows (e.g., age range, sex, distribution, ethnic breakdown, socioeconomic status, location [where are these subjects located?], etc.):

Age range- 11-12 year old students

Sex distribution- 30 males 30 females

Ethnic breakdown- Caucasians, African Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans

Socioeconomic status- students from low, middle and high SES levels

Location- Lauderdale County, Alabama

4. State what type of sample you plan to use (i.e., convenience, purposive, simple random, stratified random, cluster, systematic).

Simple random sample

5. I will gain access to and/or get contact information for my sample through the following steps:

I will randomly assign numbers to students and then send home contact information to be filled out and returned. The students will be identified by number only.

6. What, if any, are the inclusion/exclusion criteria for participation in your study: Students from diverse backgrounds, races, gender, and SES will be included and also students with various learning distributions (i. e., learning disabilities, regular ed., special ed. and gifted).7. External validity:

a. To whom do you think you can generalize the results of your study: Explain. _It can be generalized to all sixth grade students in Lauderdale County School System

_______________________________________________________________

b. If applicable, to what settings/conditions could you generalize the results of your study (ecological validity)? ____all middle schools ____________________________________________________________

c. If results are not generalizable, why not? This study cannot be generalized because the sample is not large enough. ________________________________________________________

You wont be able to generalize to all middle schools everywhere. You smaple size is too small.
