When is a Real Estate Agent a REALTORWhen is a Real Estate Agent a REALTOR®?®?
A real estate agent is a REALTOR® when he or she becomes a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION of REALTORS®, the world's largest professional association.
The term REALTOR® is a registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION of REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics.

Founded in 1908, NAR has grown from its original nucleus of 120, to over 1,300,000 members today.
NAR is composed of REALTORS® who are involved in residential and commercial real estate as brokers, salespeople, property managers, appraisers, and counselors engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry.

The Massachusetts Association of Realtors® (MAR), founded in 1924, is the parent organization of the 16 local Realtor® Associations in Massachusetts.
Massachusetts Realtors® currently account for the most active 15 percent of the more than 120,000 brokers and agents licensed to practice real estate in the Commonwealth.

The Northern Worcester County Board of REALTORS® received its charter from the National Association of REALTORS® in 1946. NAR approved our name change to the North Central Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® in December of 2001.
NCMAR has over 500 REALTOR® and Business Partner members.

The Three Way AgreementThe Three Way Agreement When you become a REALTOR®, you are a member of the local association, state association and national association.
NAR, MAR and NCMAR are the guardians of the REALTOR® trademark. Only REALTORS are allowed to use the “block R” logo or the term REALTOR®. The three associations work together to provide benefits and services to meet the needs of their membership.
