Shot 1

The first shot we see is of a woman who seems to have drowned in a bathtub. This is an effective first shot as it introduces the audience to what the video will be about, and make the audience ask questions such as ‘why the woman is in the bath’, making them want to keep on watching the video.

Shot 2

the second shot we see is of a ring, showing that this video could show themes of marriage and love, a typical convention of an alternative video.

Shot 3

This shot shows a bottle being smashed in reverse, so the bits of the glass turn back to recreate the bottle. This indicates to the audience that this video is in rewind. Showing the end of this situation first. This is effective as it goes against what a normal video would do, keeping to the alternative genre.

Shot 4

At this point in the video, the music slows down at the same time as the clip, so the sound and the visuals match. Also, you can see that this video is advertising the bands songs and tour, showing that this band may be up and coming and therefore still trying to promote their music.

Shot 5

A close up shot of a knife indicates violence and suffering in this video. This shot contradicts the lyrics of this song as the song isnt violent however this shot keeps the audience wanting to keep watching as this adds to the mystery of the video.

Shot 6

Suddenly a third person appears in the video, making the audience even more drawn to this video as the pieces of what happened to the woman in the first shot are put together. This visual again contradicts the lyrics of this song.

Shot 7

I feel that this is the climactic shot in the video as it shows the man who has been made out to be the villain is suddenly trying to save this mystery woman, making this video all the more gripping. This is important as all through the video the man has been made out to be the villain but now it shows that the woman has been in the wrong, going against stereotypes and getting the audience thinking.

Shot 8

Suddenly flashbacks of the beginning of the video begin to appear, reminding the viewer of what has happened so far, and re thinking what they initially thought about this video when they first seen this shot, and how their perception has changed as they have watched the video.

Shot 9

The end shot is the man walking into the apartment, which in a normal video would have been the first shot but in this it is the last. This shot will get the audience thiniking back to what they have just seen and try and piece the mystery of what just happened together.
