All are Welcome “The Beauty of Advent Blue” The season of Advent, which comes from the Latin word adventus meaning "coming" or "visit," begins four Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. Advent is the beginning of the church year for Christians. During Advent, we prepare for and anticipate the coming of Christ. Even as we look back and celebrate the birth of Jesus in a humble stable in Bethlehem, we also look forward anticipating the second coming of Christ as the fulfillment of all that was promised by His first coming. Blue represents hope and expectation. Deep blue is the color of the predawn sky, the color that

covers the world in the dark, cold hours before the dawn. It is meant to inspire us in the hope of

faith, and to encourage us to keep watch for the promised light of Christ, changing night into day,

and darkness into light. As the color associated with Mary, blue reminds us that during Advent

Church Staff Christmas

Special Offering

At this time of year when we pause to reflect on our

blessings, it’s hard to imagine a significant event in our life

that hasn’t been marked by a celebration in our church.

Not only holidays, but also weddings, baptisms, and funer-

als. Good times and bad, our church family has been

there. Together.

Making sure that the church is always prepared requires a

lot of behind-the-scenes preparation and a lot of hard

work by a lot of people. We are extremely fortunate to

have a dedicated and hardworking staff that does their

job so well that often times we forget how much effort

was required to get the job done. If you get the

opportunity to do so, please thank them personally.

Your Staff-Parish Relations Committee would also like us

to do something special for our church staff at Christmas.

They keep our church running smoothly, and as our

congregation continues to grow, we place tremendous

amounts of responsibility on our staff. We would like to

invite everyone who feels so inclined, to give a monetary

gift to be shared among our full-time and part-time

church staff. If your gift is made by check, please

designate it “offering - staff”. Please send your gift by

December 13, as we plan to present these gifts on Decem-

ber 15. All of our church staff work very hard and Christ-

mas is the time to tangibly say, “We love you and we

thank you. Merry Christmas!”

Thank you for your prayers, and thank you for sharing in

the ministry to which God has called us at Clarkesville First

United Methodist Church.

Merry Christmas!

In His Service, Susan Weidner, Director, CFUMC Preschool

“Rooted in faith, growing in love"

During the month of December, the preschoolers will celebrate Christmas. They will learn about the birth of Jesus and the bright star that God put in the sky to show people the way to Jesus. The preschoolers will present "To Bethlehem" on Tuesday, December 17, at 9 am, in the sanctuary. Please join us for the cutest Christmas musical you will see this year.

The kid's ministry is still "FALLing" in love with Jesus! We had a great turn out for our Kid's Fall Festival! We estimate that over 300 graced the CFUMC property and experienced the loving friendship of our church body! Thank you to everyone who played a role in serving, it is so appreciated. Our Kid's Christmas play is in the works! Please join us on December 11th at 6:30PM and December 18th, at 10:10am, in the Sanctuary to watch our kids perform "The Little Drummer Dude." Please continue to pray for our kids' ministry as we hope to continue to disciple the youngest of our church family.

Courtney Young Children’s Director

Second Story Youth Hello Church family! Clarkesville First UMC Youth is excited for

December. We've got all sorts of events and fun opportunities for fellowship this

coming month. Our youth will get to participate in a Christmas party, a gift swap,

Christmas caroling, a Progressive dinner, a Lock-In, and so much more as we dive into

the Christmas season!

While we are super excited for all the fun, we're also excited to step back from

getting caught up in the 'holidays' so that we can give God praise and thanks for the

coming of the Messiah that we are so eagerly awaiting. Please be in prayer for safe

travels throughout the month, and be in praise for the ways the Holy Spirit is moving in our youth! This is going to be

an awesome month!
