· Interviewer: On the occasion of the Teacher’s Day, how is itcelebrated in your university?

· CHT: Well, officially we have a day off for that event. In fact, we justcan enjoy one morning off only as the faculty holds the 3-hour-celebration, which will go with a speech, flowers, songs andblessings in the afternoon with all the staffs and our belovedstudents.

· Interviewer: Are there any differences between this year celebrationand last year celebration in your university?

· CHT: almost the same but the participants themselves and the role ofthem. (1st yearè 2nd yearè 3rd year…. Studentè lecturer :D)

· Interviewer: You used to be a student, so can you tell us aspecifically favorite Teacher’s Day during your school time? And whydo you like it?

· CHT: The Teacher’s day of the senior year is the most favoriteteacher’s day to me. At that time, more than 2/3 of the class wereaway in other cities for the internship, feeling sad when just some leftattending the event. Once taking a closer look to all the lecturers, memories recalled thinking that would be the last Teachers’ day forthe whole life. Also, that’s the first time I raised my horrible voice by asong with my beloved lecturer ^^ (just by chance no rehearsal butthank God no one was killed by that)… Really nice memory to me.

· Interviewer: Why do you choose teaching as yourcareer? And do you ever think about changing yourjob in the near future?

· CHT: Actually, the career did choose me J. Ibecame a lecturer by chance when my lecturermet me and my partner to have a frank talk right

after our thesis. And he did give wings to my dream at that time, I kepton moving with that dream regarding him and all the lecturers thoseare really cool. And no regret since I devote my heart and soul inwhat I chose. And shifting? Well the answer will soon be revealed inthe near future ;)

· Interviewer: Do you believe that students nowadays still respect theirteachers? And what do you expect your students to do for youpersonally and for teachers in general on this occasion?

· CHT: my answer is “yes”. Fortunately, in my university especially inmy faculty, the students are really nice and I’m proud of it. But onceyou expect something from your students youshould know what they are expecting fromyou. I’m trying my best fullfilling theirexpectation by giving much; notgiving high mark but givingwhat they need in their lifeafter the university orsimply giving them the wings totheir dreams ^^ as my lecturersdid. I’m just a simple lecturerexpecting my students would flyeven higher than me. And I had theearly gift from the class CTK32CD since

what they did is over my expectation. Thanks you all for listening tomy words even they are really strict words and thanks forunderstanding me J by your changes.

· Interviewer: Cheating is a hard-to-solve problem in education. How ischeating prevented in your university? And how effective is it?

· CHT: Cheating is always the problem in any education system. Thetranditional method to prevent cheating in my university is to organizethe exams strictly. It does take some affect to the students when theyhave to study harder and harder to pass the exam or they have toface the strict exam when no door is opened easily. But to me, I thinkthe best way to prevent the cheating is the teacher themselves, oncethe teacher cannot evaluate the student correctly via exams, projects, thesis… the cheating will still remains.

· Interviewer: There have been lots of articles criticizing some teachersbeating students; however, there is a saying goes, “spare the rod,and spoil the child”. What do you think about such controversialideas?

· CHT: I myself never use violence to my students because I know thatI’m not strong enough to kick/ beat them ;) besides that’s illegal.Personally, I think that in the university, the knowledge is kinda highlevel and word can help the teacher to express what they want notthe strength itself. With a wound you can cure for a week or more butwith strict word you need the whole life to cure it. Word is much morepowerful and I think teacher should use that power in the approriatecase, not much to harm the students’ personality but enough toencourage them in their learning. Be a friend of the students ratherthan the enemy or some actors that makes them hate studying.

· Interviewer: Anything you want to wish to our dear teachers andstudents on this special day?

· CHT: to my dear teachers “thank you all for feeling what I feel whenbeing a teacher, wish you to have all what you are longing for”, to mydear students “be my colleague to know how I feel, but think carefullybefore graping my advice ;)”

* Based on a true story told to me every now and then by my father* In memory of Uncle Mai…

He was named after a flowerHe turned out so kind and tenderHis father died fighting for his countryWhen he turned eighteen, he headed straight for the army

There he befriended my fatherThey became the best of brothersTheir friendship kept them strong to fight for their countryUntil the day he stepped on a mine of the enemy

Papa always sheds a tear as he says“Lord, I never forget the look on his face”In his last moments he took my papa’s hand“Mate, you tell my mama this is not the end”

I wondered why papa loved that flowerHe said it always made the house warmerWhen I was old enough to learn about my countryPapa told the story of a man who died for our peace

He was among thousands of othersWho gave their lives for the land of their fathersWho lived and fought till the very endAnd in their last breaths still had their faith remained

Singer Stephen Gately, a member of the Irishband Boyzone, died suddenly on October 10,2009 at the age of 33.

(In obituary, the standard style is to write justthe name first, then details after that. Since thephrase “member of the Irish band Boyzone”comes right after, “singer” would be redundant.Date should be written in that style, includingthe year.)

Gately died in his hotel room on the Spanishisland Majorca while on vacation with hispartner Andrew Cowles.

(news should be neat and specific. All namesshould be mentioned with first and last names)

Groan. We’re parked onloading bays of awarehouse onMiddelmolenlaan, a streetutterly devoid of character. It’s drizzly and cold, thesort of weather that makesyou tuck jumper into jeanswithout caring a jot aboutlooking foolish. Thewarehouse is empty untilthe containers ofequipment for AC/DC arrivetomorrow. This is thetype ofplace, inshort, thatproperlorrydrivers go.

Incidentally, is itworth describing placesany more? I recently readan article on the future oftravel writing that debatedthis topic. In Eric Newby'sday, for example, wecouldn't just Google Mapthe Hindu Kush; we neededevocative phrases to bringthe mountains alive in ourminds. Now, of course, withthe advent of the internet,is it more important toconcentrate on the peopleinstead? I'm just throwing itout there, mainly because Idon't bother describingplaces. You can get thatfrom a guidebook..

Did I mention the cold?Travelling by bicycle, by thetime I reach my first near-collision with a tram, anyfeeling in the extremities isa thing of the past. Rock n

roll tours are not all glitzand razzamatazz, youknow; today is anopportunity to catch upwith laundry. Old womensit in the laundrette, bookless, staring at theircircling washing. A nearbychip shop might be awelcome respite from thegloom, I think naively, butthe Indian owner seemsindifferent to the winter, telling me, while I try andeat fast food with gloveson, that his father has“expired.” Oh, that'scheered me up no end.

Alice - who,as you willremember, isreally calledMark - andNamibian, verysensibly, arewatching warfilms in theirtrucks, the

Yes, but just incase the country is stillthere tomorrow, perhapsI'd better plan the route.

Despite the foulconditions, I’m unable toshun an interesting city infavour of sitting in a warmtruck. Even with theattraction of Tetleyteabags and an episodeof Jeeves and Woosterunder the duvet, I ventureout again - a fashion

It’s a fairly unspectacularcycle into Antwerp, throughmini-Istanbul, mergingseamlessly into Chinatownuntil, as you pass Sung WahSupermarkt, the imposingCentral Station hoves intoview. Known as the RailwayCathedral, it looks like abasilica, but today is clotheddecoratively in scaffolding. The ‘free map for youngtravellers’ is given to mewithout so much as a battedeyelid.(That’llteach"Mystic" toassume I’min myforties).Surprisingly, there is ahost ofattractionsin Antwerp, but fortonight it's live music.

De Muze Jazz Café is great. The pianist chats to me atthe bar, peering over myshoulder at my gig list - tosee if he's playing hereagain next week. MeanwhileGottfried, my cheery barcompanion discovers myname is Barny. 'Ha! Barny, like the Flinstones?' heasks. An ageing, zealousfan of vocal jazz, he buysme a beer and leavesbefore turning into apumpkin. Now, it seemsludicrous that all theseblasted health and safetyregulations emanate fromBelgium, yet the first bar Iwalk into here has meunable to breathe for thickcigarette smoke.

Things are going from badto worse: we’ve run out ofgas for the stove. I blameNamibian; he blames me -a stalemate. Would youbelieve we have a thirdback-up plan? One simplycannot tour without cupsof tea so we are - and Ihate to say this - ratherover-prepared for anykettle eventuality. Yet, thisis an inauspicious start toa new tour.

If you aren’t a geek, you will probablybe confused when it comes to buyingyourself a new computer. You don’tknow where to start, so choosing amanufactured computer may be a goodway. However, manufactured computersare often more expensive than yourown built computers and they are alsohard to upgrade. Instead of buying amanufactured one, you should try tobuild your own with these followingpieces and basic advice given below.

Before buying the newcomputer, you will consideryour budget and your mainusage of the computer. If itis just to type up documentsand surf the web, youshouldn’t spend too muchon a powerful machine thatcan’t be taken fulladvantage of its power.Likewise, if your work isdesigning, your hardwareconfiguration must be goodenough to run graphicsoftware. After working outthese factors, you willchoose theorder ofcomponentsto buy.Additionally, researchingon price ofthehardwareamongprestigiouscomputerstores is thegood way to reduce thecost.

Although you often noticepopular brands, if in somecase you decide to buyunknown brands, youshould ask other previoususers for their feedback ofthe products as well asdoing some research ofyour own. If possible, you’dbetter ask your friends, thetech savvy person, to gowith you to choose theappropriate hardware. Tocalculate how much youwould pay on the hardware,you should buy someessential componentsarranged in order such asOptical Drive, for exampleCD or DVD Drive; a Mouse;

a Keyboard; a Case; aPower Supply; HDD (Harddisk drive); Mainboard,Monitor, etc... The othersyou consider then is CPU(Central Processing Unit),Graphics Card (GPU) andRAM if you use for eithergraphic design or playinggames. Bear in mind thatinquiring and searching forfull information of thecomponents is neverunnecessary.

Last but not least, choosing software is oneof the important parts.Which one you shouldinstall in your PC? For

instance, youhave to spend alot on WindowsOperatingSystem (OS),you can useLinux instead.Linux has manyseries ofoperatingsystems andcomes in many

different distributions suchas Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian. Its operating systems arepopular open-source (free)Moreover, rarely do virusescan run on theseorperating systems . It’sobvious that using freesoftware can save you alot.

As soon as you finishreading it, you should try todo whether in pretence(recommended if you are anew beginner), or in truth. After that, you ask techsavvy people to know howmuch you can save andhow much you can finish itefficiently. Good luck withthe mission!

Linux can be a goodchoice, in consideration

Set 1 – 29 November 2009Prologue:

A conversation between two girls:

A: I'm very confused, I need your advice. I don't

know if I should approach a guy.

B: Why? What's happened to you?

A: I have crush on a guy at my working place.

He's not very handsome but he is nice and

lovely. We work at the same department but

I've never found a chance to talk to him. He's a

marketing executive and I'm just a salesperson.

I just can observe him from a distance. Please

help me. Every time I made attempt to

approach him, my heart seemed to fall out of

my chest. What can I do now?

B: Listen, listen up. Are you serious? What do

you know about him?

A: I knew him one month ago. I know his name.

That's all. And he's very kind to everyone and

my friends like him too. But no one ever make

conversation with him. I'm going to quit my job

in one week. I have no time to waste. Can you

give me any suggestion?

B: Okay, calm down. I think you need to go

through some steps. First step, you should

have talk with him first to see if he's got

girlfriend or not and...

A: I don't care if he's got a girlfriend.

B: oh, okay, okay. I see. So let's move on.

Hmm, second step, again try to make most of

any chance to have a talk to him first. Topics

can depend on real situation at that time. You

can go nowhere in your relationship with him if

you just observe him from afar. Right?

     ...

A: I know but HOW TO? Run into him and say

sorry and...

B: I don't know. Maybe he got hurt hundreds of

times like that and that don't impress him

much.

A: So what i can do now?

     ...

Topic 1:

Put yourself in girl A's shoes.

Would you decide to approach that

object? If yes, how are you going to do that? If

no, give reasons why you are not approach

him?

If that person has girlfriend or boyfriend

already, would you act like the girl A does?

(Recommended by Jasmine)

Topic 2: Role-playingA golden chance has come to the girl A. One

day, her object comes and returns the ID card

that she left at the working place. While her

heart is beating out of control, she tries to calm

down and make the most of this chance.

Imagine you are in the similar situation, try to

drive the conversation with your object the way

you want it to go.

Student A: you are talking to the person in your

dream. So calm down and make use of that

golden chance. Try to get his contact address

(email, cell phone...) cleverly

Student B: (the student A's object) your

intention is to give the ID card to her/him. You

know few things about this one so just make a

usual conversation with him/her.
