The PLC G3 protocol main features:

•A robust high-performance PHY layer based on OFDM modulation (AKA OFDM Modulation type 2)

•A IEEE 802.15.4 MAC layer, perfectly suited to handle noisy and heavily disturbed environments

•IPv6, the new generation of IP (Internet Protocol), which widely opens the range of potential applications and services

•6LoWPAN adaptation sub-layer defined by the Internet Engineer Task Force (IETF)

The PLC G3 communication stack is based on:

- IEC 62056-61/62 for object identification

- IEC 62056-53 well proven application layer- RFC 4944 « Transmission of IPv6 Packets over IEEE 802.15.4 Networks »: Header compression andfragmentation to adapt IPv6 MTU to PLC G3 MAC MTU - RFC 2460 « Internet Protocol, Version 6 (IPv6) Specification»

- IEEE 802.15.4 for the MAC layer specification

Widely deployed communication standards coming from well established international

communication bodies such as IEC, IETF and IEEE
