“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of thegreat God and our Savior JesusChrist;” (Titus 2:13)
It is a given that the early believ-ers believed in and anticipated the
second coming of Jesus, a literal, physical return. It is a fact that most conservativeChristians believe this as well. But is believing that Jesus may return the same aswanting Him to do so?
After a service some years ago, I overheard two church leaders discussing thesecond coming of Christ. One said to the other, “I know the Bible teaches He couldcome at any time, but I hope He does not come soon. There are a lot of things Iwould like to do first.” The other one answered, “I know what you mean.” I was abit shocked! What!! What could possibly be so important in your life that Jesusshould delay His coming?
Most of us have heard the expression “bucket list.” A bucket list is a list of thingsyou wish to accomplish or experience before you “kick the bucket.” But what ifJesus would come before your bucket list is all checked off? Is what is on yourbucket list more important than your desire for God’s purposes in this world to beaccomplished? The answer to that question will show you a lot about where youare spiritually.
