ORGANIZATION OF LIBRARY:

The HMS library print collection contains over 13,000 items. Also housed in the library areDVDs, audio recordings, magazines, student computers, and a teacher resource room.

The books are divided following the Dewey Decimal system: by fiction, non-fiction,autobiographies/biographies, graphic novels, series, reference, and foreign language

titles. Teacher resource lists are also available on Destiny. Ebooks are available throughEpic reader, a free source.

CHECK OUTS:

Students are allowed 2 books for 2 weeks. Students’ due dates are their own. They areNOT tied to teachers. Students with overdue books or fines will not be allowed to check

out more books. Overdue notices will be printed each 9 weeks.

READING AREA:

Teachers should choose which students will use the reading area prior to each visit. The reading area can accommodate a limited number of students.

STUDENTS:

Students should enter the library quietly in an orderly fashion. No more than 4 students

per table. Pre-assigned groups by the teacher work best, so students know ahead of timewho they will be sitting with.

Students are allowed to bring electronic devices to the library as long as they have the

Technology Acceptable Use district form on file, and teachers’ permission. Students areNOT allowed to bring food or drinks into the library.

SCHEDULE:

Classes are scheduled through ELA teachers on a 2 week rotation. Orientation lessons

will address the Destiny online catalog and policies and procedures. Other media lessonswill be taught on research, using the Magnolia data base, credible and non-credible

sources, plagiarism, and other curriculum related topics. Extra check out times will beposted. Students need signed agenda if not coming with teacher.
