Rotary Club of Magill Sunrise Page | 1 We finally had Rebecca Walker from CanTeen visit us with her presentation on a program that we financially supported last year. For those who don’t know CanTeen is an organisation that helps kids with cancer through various programs such as camps and fun days. They have a philosophy that quotes “No young person should have to go through their cancer experience alone”. Funds are partly raised through the annual “Bandana Day” and the “City to Bay Fun Run” an event I took part in this year. The program was a representative day where members got together with people experiencing a similar situation to them in one of 4 scenarios: They have cancer They have parents who have cancer They have friends who have cancer They have siblings who have cancer They did activities together in these groups such as painting and giant games like chess and then met back together to discuss what they got out of the day. She showed us pictures of the fun these kids were having and advised it was a huge success. CanTeen is an organization we have supported over the years and hope to work with again sometime in the New Year by hosting another fun day for the kids. Our Acting Sergeant Carol did a fine job getting money out of our members and guests...pity she does not know the difference between heads and tails...hehehe!! Three quarters of those participating in the heads and tails game feel cheated. Last Sunday’s Magill Market, held in the Library Car Park was our most financially successful yet. At big thanks to all those that helped make it happen. See photos below. A reminder of our Christmas get together at Nightingale Park this Sunday from 4pm. Bring some food, beverages and a chair and don’t forget that all people attending need to bring a gift for the tree. Lastly, our young exchange student Carlo is also on holidays now so if any members would like to share a trip, beach shack or any other outing with him then get back to his current host Sue Hector. See you Sunday!! Greg

We finally had Rebecca Walker from CanTeen visit us with her presentation on a program that we financially

supported last year. For those who don’t know CanTeen is an organisation that helps kids with cancer

through various programs such as camps and fun days. They have a philosophy that quotes “No young

person should have to go through their cancer experience alone”. Funds are partly raised through the

annual “Bandana Day” and the “City to Bay Fun Run” an event I took part in this year.

The program was a representative day where members got together with people experiencing a similar

situation to them in one of 4 scenarios:

• They have cancer

• They have parents who have cancer

• They have friends who have cancer

• They have siblings who have cancer

They did activities together in these groups such as painting and giant games like chess and then met back

together to discuss what they got out of the day. She showed us pictures of the fun these kids were having

and advised it was a huge success. CanTeen is an organization we have supported over the years and hope

to work with again sometime in the New Year by hosting another fun day for the kids.

Our Acting Sergeant Carol did a fine job getting money out of our members and guests...pity she does not

know the difference between heads and tails...hehehe!! Three quarters of those participating in the heads

and tails game feel cheated.

Last Sunday’s Magill Market, held in the Library Car Park was our most financially successful yet. At big

thanks to all those that helped make it happen. See photos below.

A reminder of our Christmas get together at Nightingale Park this Sunday from 4pm. Bring some food,

beverages and a chair and don’t forget that all people attending need to bring a gift for the tree.

Lastly, our young exchange student Carlo is also on holidays now so if any members would like to share a

trip, beach shack or any other outing with him then get back to his current host Sue Hector. See you

Sunday!! Greg

Mark T and Licaria, for being late to the this morning’s meeting.

Greg, for forgetting the guests at last week’s meeting in his welcome address.

Chris G, forgetting Lindsay had borrowed his pen (Editor’s comment: tough call; it’s like fining the

victim of a crime rather than the perpetrator).

Ian Carman, for selling raffle tickets to his daughter’s friends while visiting for dinner and then

arrange for one of them to win the raffle.

At the recent RI President Elect’s Luncheon one of the stated goals was for clubs to boost female

membership to 40 % - Mark T was heard to comment that this is an opportunity to get rid of some

of ladies from our club as we have a higher percentage than that already.

The guys on the Secret Men’s Business table.

Colin, the neatest and most precise application for membership that Lindsay has ever seen.

All those who did not attend the market on Sunday.

Me (Carol), for not wearing my glasses and allegedly calling ‘2 heads’ when Greg clearly witnessed

‘2 tails’ during the Sergeant’s Game.

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of a worthy enterprise and in particular to encourage and foster

The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.

High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by every Rotarian of their occupation as an opportunity to serve

society.

The application of the ideal service by every Rotarian to their personal, business and community life.

The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional people united in the ideal of service.

The Four Way Test of the things we think, say or do:

Is it the truth? Is it Fair to all concerned?

Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

For good food, good fellowship And the opportunity to serve through Rotary

…we give thanks.
