Currently restoring the house, the owner is using stenciling, color, plants and a varied collection of furniture to bring out some of the house’s inherent charm. The Marietta Restoration Headquarters, 36 West Market Street, is open for the 1980 Candlelight Tour. Featured is preservation literature and Marietta me- morabilia. Gothic Lofts, Condomin- jum, 100 West Walnut Street (enter at left side of building), was constructed an Church until 1970 when the congregation moved to their new location (also open for the Candlelight Tour). After nine years of neglect, the building was purchased at a Sheriff's Sale by the current owners, Ken and Linda Ross, with the goal of returning the once beautiful building to useful life. With the help of Lancaster architect John deVitry, the exterior is being restored and the interior converted into four open and exciting living spaces, the first of which is open for the tour. The Jerry W. Martin Residence and Studio is located at 150 Apple Alley. This early twentieth century brick warehouse was re- cently converted from a in 1878 and 1907. A smart, contemporary loft apartment on the second floor is convenient to the owner’s blacksmith and tinsmith shop studios on the first floor. Jerry W. Martin is the owner, designer and resident of this unusually adapted building. The Marietta Theatre, oldest movie theatre in Lancaster County, will show continuous short films dur- ing the tour, with accompan- iment by music from the nation’s fourth largest pipe organ. Admission is in- cluded with the tour ticket. The Marietta Community House, 264 West Market Street, is a memorial to veterans, provided by the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heistand in memory of their son. Light refreshments will be served here by members of the Marietta Lions Club and their wives. The Keith R. Shadle Residence, 276 West Mar- ket Street, is a large two- story brick and clapboard structure dating back to the early 1800’s. The home’s interior carries on early 19th century motif accented with a central fireplace in the living room and a walk-off porch in the front bedreom. Canal House, located at 264 West Front Street, is the home of Keith and Jody Miles and their son. The original portion of this frame structure dates from the early 1800's and shows evidence of having been built by or for Joseph Anderson, son of the co-founder of Marietta. A summer kitchen with brick floor was added in the late 19th century. Interesting reproductions of period wall stenciling are an unusual feature of the house, which has been carefully restored to reflect the eloquent simplicity of an earlier time. The Johannsen House is located at 216 West Front Street. This charming early 19th century residence is presently two townhouses occupied by Larry Gibble and Rosemary Patterson.
