MAPS: job done? YES!!! but ….

Strategic planning: good take-up of concept, but mixed results in implementation, “misalignment” between donor actions and NSDS.

2010 census round: impressive results, but complementary actions needed.

Increased funding: yes, but too “fragmented” and “concentrated”.

IHSN / ADP: good progress, but are we making full use of existing data?

Improvements in MDG monitoring: more “2 data points” instances, but are MDGs relevant in countries?

Accountability of international system: Principles for IOs, but is more needed (e.g. co-ordination)?

What’s new?

Financial crisis:mixed signals on funding levels, but increased pressure to demonstrate success.

Partnership, more South – South co-operation:changing relationships, emerging countries becoming leaders amongst their peers (e.g. South Africa, Brazil).

Global programmes:some well integrated into MAPS philosophy, others not.

World-wide development indicators:do not fulfil country needs; move towards country specific indicators.
