    PREAMBLES

    1. Drawings Provided by the Contractor

    1.1 The Contractor will receive from the Engineer the drawings listed hereof.

    The Contractor shall be solely responsible for providing all sub-contractors,whether nominated or otherwise, with sufficient copies of all relevant drawings inorder that they can complete their work within the approved constructionprogramme under Clause 8.3 of the Conditions of Contract.

    2. Shop Drawings and Samples

    The term "Shop Drawings" as used in the Contract Documents includesfabrication, erection, layout and setting drawings; manufacturer's standarddrawings; schedules; descriptive literature, illustrations, catalogues and brochures;performance and test data; wiring and control diagrams; and other drawings anddescriptive data pertaining to materials, equipment, piping, duct and conduitsystems, and methods of construction as required to show that materials,

    equipment, or systems, and position thereof, conform to the Contract Documents.The term "manufactured" as used in the Contract applies to standard units usuallymass produced. The term "fabricated" as used in the Contract Documents meansitems specifically assembled or made out of selected materials to meet individualdesign requirements. Shop drawings shall establish actual detail of allmanufactured or fabricated items, indicate proper relation to adjoining work,amplify design details of mechanical and electrical equipment in proper relation tophysical spaces on the structure, and incorporate minor changes of design orconstruction to suit actual conditions. All MEP drawings must be coloured.

    The term "samples" as used in the Contract Documents includes natural materials,fabricated items, equipment, devices, appliances, or parts thereof as specified,and other samples as may be required by the Engineer to determine whether kind,

    quality, construction, workmanship, finish, colour, and other characteristics ofmaterials conform to requirements of the Contract Documents. Samples shallestablish kind, quality and other required characteristics of various parts of theWorks and all work shall be in accordance with the accepted samples.

    Within fourteen (14) days after signing the Contract the Contractor shall submit tothe Engineer a schedule for the submittal of shop drawings and samples. Theschedule shall indicate the dates on which the Contractor intends to submit shopdrawings and samples for each of the various items of work for the Engineersreview. The schedule shall be on the requirement that all shop drawings andsamples are to be submitted for review by the Engineer within one (1) month aftercommencement of the shop drawing review period. The schedule shall allowapproximately twenty (20) working days for the Engineer's review and additional

    time for resubmission of shop drawings and samples which may be unacceptable;however, the Contractor shall recognise that the time required for the Engineer'sreview may vary depending upon the quantity of material submitted at any onetime and the complexity of the shop drawing(s). At the time that the schedule issubmitted, the Contractor shall also submit for review his proposed format for thetransmittal of shop drawings and samples and an explanation of his system foridentifying shop drawings and samples.

    2. Shop Drawings and Samples (Contd)

    The Contractor shall submit shop drawings and samples at his own cost inaccordance with the agreed Schedule for Submission of shop drawings andsamples and with such promptness as to cause no delay in his own work or in that

    of any other Contractor or Sub-Contractor. The Contractor shall transmit shopdrawings and samples to places in the Sultanate of Oman designated by theEngineer and is responsible for all costs, including air courier, shipping or postalcharges. No extensions of time will be granted because of failure to have shopdrawings and samples submitted in ample time to allow for processing.Sub-Contractors shall submit shop drawings and samples through the Contractor.

    Shop drawings and samples shall be properly identified with the name of theProject, the Contractor, the Sub-Contractor, and the date. Each lot submittedshall be accompanied by an approved transmittal form referring to the name of theProject, to the number of the specification section, and to the paragraph or Clausenumber when applicable, for identification of each item.

    Shop drawings for each section of the Works shall be numbered consecutivelyand the numbering system shall be retained throughout all revisions in accordancewith the Engineers system. Each shop drawing and sample shall have a clearspace for the stamps of the Contractor and the Engineer. Where clear space is notavailable on samples, the Contractor shall submit with tags or stickers attachedthereto. The Contractor shall submit one (1) Soft copy in PDF and DWG formatand three (3) prints of each drawing to the Engineer, including fabrication,erection, layout and setting out drawings, and such other drawings as requiredunder the various sections of the specifications until final acceptance is obtained.The Contractor shall also submit three (3) copies of manufacturer's descriptivedata for materials, equipment and fixtures, including catalogue sheets showingdimensions, performance characteristics and capacities; wiring diagrams andcontrols; schedules; and other pertinent information as required.

    In cases where a considerable range of colour, graining, texture or othercharacteristics may be anticipated in finished products, a sufficient number ofsamples of the specified materials shall be furnished to the Engineer to indicatethe full range of such characteristics which will be present in the finished products;any such products delivered or erected without submittal and acceptance of fullrange samples shall be subject to rejection. Except for range samples, and unlessotherwise called for in the various sections of the specifications or specificallyrequested by the Engineer before submittals, samples shall be submitted intriplicate. All samples shall be marked, tagged, or otherwise properly identifiedwith the name of the Contractor, the name of the Project, the purpose for whichthe samples are submitted, and the date and shall be accompanied by a letter oftransmittal containing similar information, together with the specification section

    number for identification of each item. Samples of materials which are generallyfurnished in containers bearing the manufacturer's descriptive labels and printedapplication instructions shall, if not submitted in the standard containers, besupplied with such labels and application instructions.

    3. Composite Coordination Drawings

    The Contractor shall also submit composite coordination drawings showing thelocations and sizes of the mechanical, electrical and public health work in relation

    to the structural and architectural work for coordination purposes. The compositecoordination shop drawings shall be in sufficient detail to show overall dimensionsof ductwork, piping, conduit, equipment, fixtures, structural members and relatedarchitectural features, and shall show clearances between such works.Co-ordination drawings shall be submitted to the Engineer in the same mannerand quantity as for shop drawings. In particular the Contractor will conform to thefollowing requirements:

    (a) The Contractor shall prepare a dimensioned layout and required sectionsof all ductwork, pipe work and conduits for use as a coordination drawingand the distribution to Sub-Contractors whose work is affected.

    (b) The Contractor shall schedule and conduct a coordination meeting to be

    attended by all Sub-Contractors whose work is affected. The Contractorshall notify the Engineer and invite to join such meetings. EachSub-Contractor involved shall indicate the extent of his work on thereproducible original coordination drawings. Following the co-ordination ofthe work, each Sub-contractor shall indicate his approval on thereproducible original co-ordination drawings by signing such drawings. TheContractor shall then distribute a copy of the co-ordination drawings toeach of the Sub-Contractors for their respective use.

    (c) The Contractor shall submit individual Shop Drawings following thedistribution of the coordination drawings and shall bear a stamp indicatingthat the work has been co-ordinated with other trades.

    (d) Each change/Modification is required to be approved by the Engineer &Employer.

    The Contractor shall prepare composite co-ordination drawings and installationlayouts, when required, to depict proposed solutions for tight site conditions. Thecomposite drawings and installation layouts shall be co-ordinated on the site bythe Contractor and his Sub-contractors for proper relationship to the work of allother trades, based on site conditions.

    4. Documents at Site and Record Drawings

    As the work progresses the Contractor, and the Sub-Contractor for each trade ordivision of the work, under the direction of the Contractor, shall keep a complete

    and accurate record of all changes or deviations from the Contract Documentsand shop drawings, indicating the work as actually installed. All such changesshall be neatly and correctly shown on blackline prints of the drawings affected, orin a master copy of the specifications as the case may be, with appropriatesupplementary notes. This record set of drawings, shop drawings andspecifications shall be kept at the job site for inspection by the Engineer.

    The above records shall be arranged in order, in accordance with the varioussections of the specifications, and shall be properly indexed. At the completion of

    the work the Contractor and each Sub-Contractor shall transfer the recordedchanges indicated on the record set to CD in DWG/PDF format to the Employer atthe Contractor's expense and shall certify by endorsement thereof, that each ofthe marked up transparencies of the drawings and specifications is complete andaccurate. Drawings shall be marked "Record Drawings of the Work As Built".Prior to the issuance of the Taking Over Certificate by the Engineer, and as acondition to acceptance of the work, each Sub-contractor shall deliver therecorded transparencies and specifications arranged in proper order, indexed andendorsed as hereinbefore specified, to the Contractor, and the Contractor shallassemble these records for all divisions of the work, review them for completenessand then submit them to the Engineer in suitable transfer cases, indexed andmarked for each division of the work. The Engineer may withhold the Taking OverCertificate if the drawings are not satisfactorily completed.
