Watercolour Painting in Spain with
Linda Muttitt
Linda has been working with
watercolour for over thirty
years, drawn to the
luminous, transparent quality
of this medium. Her
watercolours embody a love
and profound respect for
nature.
She has taught at the Federa-
tion of Canadian Artists Studio and Simon Fraser Uni-
versity where she was
classified as a 'master teacher'. She is a highly
acclaimed instructor, and has travelled to present
workshops on watercolour exploration, creative
journalling, and the integration of nature, passion, and
art. Her teachings emphasize freeing the expressive
spirit within each individual.
Linda says ‘’The culture and beauty of Spain is sure to inspire! My focus for painting at El Molino and the surrounding area is to have a exhilarating time taking our personal response to what we see and feel, and finding ways to express these experiences using watercolour, pen & ink, and some integrated writing. Participants will be shown specific skills to help them translate these experiences to paper, including studies in viewpoints (close-up to distant), keeping colours luminous and expressive, painting small vignettes, and designing strong compositions. Emphasis will be on having fun and feeling free within the medium.
Nurture and explore your artistic talents and enjoy your own creative adventure at El Molino Viejo, the old mill, in a tranquil valley surrounded by olive groves. There is time to absorb the relaxing atmosphere, to savour Mediterranean cuisine during leisurely lunches in the courtyard, tapas by candlelight and long convivial dinners with new friends. There is lots of time too for afternoon dips in the pool, for one-to-one instruction, country walks and plenty of laughter. Join us in a shared small group atmosphere where there is emphasis on individual attention and instruction and time aplenty for artists at all levels to expand their creative skills. Hosts Chef Mike Powell and his wife Hilary are passionate about Spanish culture and cuisine. Mike creates healthy and sumptuous Mediterranean meals with quality local fresh produce including fruits and vegetables grown a stone’s throw from the mill. We welcome non-painting partners and offer a Spanish Experience, light hearted Spanish Conversation with a tutor for beginners or those wishing to brush up their linguistic skills, a couple of hands-on Cooking sessions in the kitchen, two cooking demos, an olive oil tasting and a sherry tasting as well as participation in the excursions. Participants in all courses will visit the fascinating city of Cordoba where we enter across a Roman bridge to the walled historic core with the Mesquita - a
cathedral inside the magnificent remains of a mosque - and narrow, flower filled lanes in the Jewish quarter where silverwork, leather, pottery and other crafts are displayed in small boutiques and stores. In the evening we’ll share a Cordoban supper followed by a Flamenco performance. Our other excursion is to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Alhambra in Granada. We’ll spend time exploring the palace complex, including the beautiful Patio of the Lions, newly completed after 9 years of restoration work. We’ll discover the charms of the Summer palaces and Generalife, the architect’s gardens, with fountains, scented flowers and herbs, patios and pools.
