What happens whena believer dies?

• John 8:24 “Jesus said, ‘Unless you believe that I am

He, you will die in your sins’”

• Revelation 14:13 “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.”

“Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age… and was gathered to his people” (Genesis 25:8).  

“Isaac breathed his last, and he died and was gathered to his people, old and full of days” (Genesis 35:29).  Jacob said to his family, “I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers…” (Genesis 49:29).

“…the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him.”  2 Thess 2:1

“I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to Myself that where I am, you may be also” (John 14:3). 

“They will see the Son of man coming on the

clouds of heaven with power and great glory

and He will send out His angels with a loud

trumpet call, and they will gather His elect

from the four winds” (Matt 24:30-31)

1 Cor 15:52-53 It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds,

those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are

living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be

transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must

be transformed into immortal bodies.

“Suppose a woman’s husband dies, and then she

marries again… suppose this happens again and again, and she ends up marrying seven different husbands who all die, and then she dies.  In the resurrection,

when they rise, whose wife will she be?” (Mark 12:23).

Verse 24 “Jesus replied, "Your mistake is that you don't know the Scriptures, and you don't

know the power of God.”

Deut 29 : 29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. (English Standard Version) 29 “The Lord our God has

secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them,

but we and our children are accountable forever for all

that He has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms

of these instructions. (New Living Translation)

1 John 3:2 Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet

been revealed. We know that when He appears, we

will be like Him because we will see Him as He is

Luke 1:15 “… for he [John the Baptist] will be great in the eyes of the Lord. He must never touch wine or other alcoholic drinks. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even before his birth.”

• Matt 3:12 “He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with His winnowing fork. Then He will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into His barn but burning the chaff with never-ending fire.”

• Matt 24:40-41 Two men will be working together in the field; one will be taken, the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding flour at the mill; one will be taken, the other left.

Matt 25:31-32 Jesus says, “When the Son of Man comes in His glory… He will sit on His glorious throne. Before Him will be gathered all the nations and He will separate people one from another

as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.” 

• 2 Cor 5:10 “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.”

• Rom 14:10, 12 “Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.” verse 12: “Each of us will give an account of himself to God.”  

• Heb 4:13 “No creature is hidden from His sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”  

Matt 25:33-46 He will put the righteous people at His right and the others at His left. Then the King will say to the people on His right, "Come, you that are blessed by My Father! Come and possess the kingdom which has been prepared for you ever since the creation of the world. I was hungry and you fed Me, thirsty and you gave Me a drink; I was a stranger and you received Me in your homes, naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me, in prison and you visited Me.' The righteous will then answer Him, "When, Lord, did we ever see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You a drink? When did we ever see You a stranger and welcome You in our homes, or naked and clothe You? When did we ever see You sick or in prison, and visit You?' The King will reply, "I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these followers of Mine, you did it for Me!' "Then He will say to those on His left, "Away from Me, you that are under God's curse! Away to the eternal fire which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels! I was hungry but you would not feed Me, thirsty but you would not give Me a drink; I was a stranger but you would not welcome Me in your homes, naked but you would not clothe Me; I was sick and in prison but you would not take care of Me.' Then they will answer Him, "When, Lord, did we ever see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and we would not help You?' The King will reply, "I tell you, whenever you refused to help one of these least important ones, you refused to help Me.' These, then, will be sent off to eternal punishment, but the righteous will go to eternal life."

Judgment of our works

• Rev 22: 12 “Look, I am coming soon, bringing My reward with Me to repay all people according to their deeds. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”

• 2 Cor 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done.”

• 1 Cor 3:8 “Each will receive his wages according to his labour”.   

Judgment of our words

• Matt 12:36-37 “On the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”  

• James 3:1-2 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more severely than others. For all of us make many mistakes. If someone does not make any mistakes when he speaks, he is perfect and able to control his whole body.

Judgment of our secrets

• Ecclesiastes 12:14 “For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.”  

• Luke 12:2-3 “Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.”  

Judgment of our motives

1 Cor 4:5“Do not pronounce judgment before

the time, before the Lord comes, Who will bring to light the things now

hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one

will receive his commendation from God.”  

JESUS IS THE JUDGE

John 5:22-23 “The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,

that all may honour the Son, just as they honour the Father.”  

How to prepare for judgment• Rom 12:18-19 “If possible, so far as it depends on

you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’”  

• 1 Cor 11: 28 - But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

• 1 Cor 11: 29 -30 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep

• Rom 5:1 “since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.”

• 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

• Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart… See if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting”

• Hebrews 12:14 “Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord”
