includeactivelistening,feedback,verbalandnonverbalcommunication,writtencommunication,using
empatheticratherthansympatheticstatementsandpresentationskills.Learningactivitiesassociatedwiththis
aredesignedtopromotetheexchangeofideasbetweenorganizationalmembers.
ResultsOriented:Theleaderwhoisresultsorientedisfocusedonoutcomesandtakesaccountabilityforhisorheractionsaswellastheirteams. Someoftheskillsassociatedwiththiscompetencyareprojectmanagement,
staffingandproductivity,goalsetting,strategicplanning,fiscalmanagementdelegation,benchmarkingand
continuousimprovement.
FutureFocused:Afuturefocusedleaderisonewhoiscommittedtoprogress. Heorshefullyunderstandsthevision,strategicobjectivesandcultureoftheorganization,andusesthisperspectiveasaframeworkfor
influencingeventsandchangetorealizethatvision. Someoftheskillsassociatedwiththiscompetencyare:
systemsthinkingchangemanagement,visioning,organizationaldevelopmentandstrategicagility.
ExercisesSoundandConsistentJudgment&Decisions:Thiscompetencyaddressestheneedforaleadertoconsistentlymakedecisionsbasedonanalyzingavailableinformation/data,andweighingthatwithethicaland
organizationalimpact. Someoftheskillsincludedinthiscompetencyare:problemsolving,decisionmaking,
criticalthinking,anddataanalysis.
PeopleDeveloper:Thecompetencyofpeopledeveloperfocusesontheleadersprimaryfunctionofdevelopingtheorganizationsmembershipthroughempowermentwhichfostersemployeeengagement. Someoftheskills
includedinthiscompetencyyouare:employeecoaching,givingfeedback,mentoring,professional
development,andperformancemanagement.
TechnologicalAwareness
and
Understanding:
The
leader
with
technological
awareness
is
capable
of
interfacing
withtheorganizationsnetworksasappropriatetohisorherfunction,isabletouseUMsproductivitysoftware
applications,andstaysabreastoftechnologyadvancesinhisorherprofessionalarea. Skillsforthiscompetency
include:emailetiquette,implementationandmasteryofindustryspecificapplications,MicrosoftOfficeWord,
Excel,PowerPointandOutlookbasicsandinternetsearchapplications.
CustomerFocused: Thecustomerfocusedleaderensuresthathisorherunitordepartmentspolicies,procedures,andemployeesarealignedwiththeneedsofthecustomer. Customerisdefinedasinternaltothe
team,betweenunitsandtheexternalvisitor/guestoftheorganization. Skillsassociatedwiththiscompetency
includedealingwithdifficultpeople,continuousimprovement,systemsthinking,andsettingstandardsfor
service.
TransformationalLeadershipstyle:Thetransformationalleaderissomeonewhoishighlyethicalwithaclearvisionofthefuture. Heorshepromotesemployeeengagement,motivatesindividualsandteamstohigher
levelsofproductivity,andusesinfluentialratherthandirect/coercivepowertogaindesiredresults. Someskills
