of streams .. At 0900 Mudbank 2-4 reached town of Songjin DS 052708. By inter­ragation of the village leader named. Min-Kang-Kil learned that area or Songsu-ri was oaaupied by 700 natives of which only 40 were men of military age. Road up this point was barely passable to personel carrier due to road washouts •. No bridges were encountered and streams were very shallow. At 0930 returned to 7th Marines a­rea beaause of jeep trouble. Returning to Songjin at 1015 Mudbank 2-4 was unable to find ass­igned ::r.·oute and p:t•oceeded east over a easily forded stream to Sokcho-ri. From Korean police consisting of 1 offi<>er and 8 rcrm learned town contained 200 r:1en and women, ;\bout 40 of these were mer, of' military age"' No enorr.y activity seer>.~, .. heE.:r>C. of. Being unable to find road ass].g10d as return l·Cutl? from !rolmarr;., patrol continued east to near Yiyonechon. Road to this point was passable by 2t ton trucks but only wide enough for one lane. Ho fords or fi•idges were encountered. At lll5 Mudbank 2-4 had returned to the YiCinity of Sangjon and attempted to find a road south to Tolmanu. Following a trail leading south from S~~gjon the patrol reached Tolmanu by way of trail east of hill mass DS 052685. Here interragation of village leader, named Chung-song-kio, showed negative enemy activity. He is " leader of 470 people of whom 40 are men of military age. Roads were barely passable :for personal carrier and could not be used for heaYier trucks. No bridges were seen and only on9 stream was forded. Eeturning north through Vessangsu-gol and Solscho-:r-1 patr-ol reached Yillage of :rokchi-ri at 1315 hours. Questioning n&tives siowed 500 natives to live there under a leader named Pa!<-chung-un. Was not able to determine men of mili tarv a!Ze. Trail no!'th to this point ~<as impassable for trucks and hazardous for Jeeps and other vehicles. Patrol returned to 7th Marines area at 1415 hrs. No enemy activity was seen by patrol or reported by natiYes, · ~es­tioning of village leaders showed about 120 runarrc1ed wen of mili­tary age in the are~.. Roads were found not pa.ssable for 2i ton trucks except from Sokcho-ri east to Yujonchon. Ko bridges were encountered a~d all streams forded were forded were shallow. Enemy contact was negative.
