“You can succeed on your own terms but you can’t succeed alone”
Join our interactive workshops and benefit from in-depth sessions, hosted by selected industry experts. In our unique workshops, industry experts will share their expertise with a limited group of peers. Our workshop leaders provide in-depth knowledge and will actively foster open exchange and discussion to help you face challenges, discover solutions, and make
decisions crucial to business excellence.
08:30 Registration and morning coffee
10:00 – 10:30 Coffee break and networking opportunity
Workshop A I 09:00 – 12:00 The basics of aircraft seat comfort and design In this workshop attendees will actively design an aircraft seat. First the exact ideal back rest angle is defined based on the activity the person will do in the seat. Than the ideal seat contour
of back rest and seat pan is defined by 3d scanning of human bodies while seated. The next step is to choose the foam for the various parts of the seat based on the latest research regarding sensitivity of the seat. Also, ideas will be developed how to stimulate variation in posture while seated. Finally, comfort models are shown. For instance a model where seat pitch and seat width are input and the comfort level the output.
Prof. Dr. Peter Vink, Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, TU Delft, The Netherlands
Workshop B I 09:00 – 12:00 Innovative lightweight seat design concepts Economy seating arguably faces the most challenging design and engineering criteria in an aircraft interior. Materials, their properties and the processes available to manufacture them largely
govern the industry’s approaches to meeting these challenges. New lightweight materials such as composites, advance aluminium alloys, titanium and magnesium have proven to be challenging to integrate, but are beginning to offer new benefits. How far will new materials take us? Could they unlock a new generation of thinking around the design and production of economy seating?
• Whataretheemerging, state-of-the-art, lightweight performance materials currently being integrated? And what is the prediction for the future? • Overcomingroadblocks-industryreluctance and certification • Aluminium spacers and spars – the dominant economy seat structure. Can this be challenged? • Howtouseindustrial design to its full capacity in the integration and development of new materials – not just for aesthetics • Rapid prototyping and rapid manufacturing processes – are they up to the job? • Achievinggame-changing comfort without increasing weight - do advanced materials hold the key?

12:00 – 13:00 Networking luncheon
14:30 – 15:00 Coffee break and networking opportunity
Workshop C I 13:00 – 16:00 How to create a multi-sensory experience for aircraft passengers? Although in literature, much attention is given to anthropometry in aircraft seat design, comfort experience is influenced by other factors as well. Smell, light, noise, vibrations, climate – all
have an influence and probably even overrule anthropometrics in the experience of comfort. During this workshop, we will discuss the latest scientific findings regarding these sensory inputs as well as the level of importance and their relationship with comfort. Based on newly gained knowledge on comfort influencers, we will brainstorm on possibilities how to measure the effects of the different senses, and how to create the ideal comfortable
multi-sensory experience for aircraft passengers.
Dr. ir. Suzanne Hiemstra-van Mastrigt, Post-doctoral researcher Applied Ergonomics and Design, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands
Workshop D I 13:00 – 16:00 Aircraft seat certification and testing As seats have a huge impact on passenger safety they are the main focus for testing and certification. More and more components are finding their way into seating, such as IFE monitors,
motors for seat recline, and much more. Testing and certification becomes a more complex effort. Seating manufacturers are facing the challenge to find a balance between lighter-weight materials, and compliance with the 16g test. Discuss in this workshop innovative and new concepts on testing and certification and get to know best practice solutions.

Aircraft Cabin Management: Launched in 2012, Aircraft Cabin Management is the first B2B magazine to take an in-depth look at every aspect of the design, manufacture and operation of modern airline and business aircraft cabins. The latest products, materials and design concepts are all key to successful cabin management, but what about the reliability, maintainability, environmental impact and retrofits, even regulatory issues? Each issue closely examines all of these topics, helping airlines to address the balance between passenger appeal and operational efficiency. Aircraft Cabin Management is published quarterly in January, April, July and October. To visit the website /www.aircraftcabinmanagement.com
