7th grade WFMS Pre-AP

Summer Reading Book Project

Due 2nd week of school - August 19th - 23rd, 2019

Since reading is an important component to learning, all of the Pre-AP students will be responsible for independently reading a novel and completing a project.

Please select your own novel/chapter book that is 200+ pages to read this summer.

The only criteria are:*No graphic/comic books (EX: Diary of Wimpy Kid, Magna, graphic novels)*We would prefer you pick a book that you have not read before

This project will be a TEST grade.

After reading their novel, students may choose to do one of the following: (examples are on the last page)

1. Advertisement: Pretend that you are trying to sell your book. On a poster board or in Microsoft PowerPoint, you must promote your book with pictures and words. You must include:

● Prices and buying information = 15 points

● 12 details from the book – each one should be 20-30 words. = 50 points

● Pictures about your book. Minimum of 5. = 20 points

● Selling points about your book – make someone want to buy your book! = 15 points

2. Summary: Write a 30 sentence summary of your book.

● 30 sentences = 30 points

● Included beginning, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution = 50 points

● Neatness and correct punctuation = 20 points

3. ABC Book: Create a children’s ABC book. You must include:

● This can be completed on paper or created in Powerpoint, Google Slides, or Microsoft Word.

● Include each letter of the alphabet. (You may choose to skip “X” & “Z”) = 50 points

● Each letter should be on a separate page WITH a picture or drawing. = 30 points

● Each description of the letter should be at least 25 words. Include the word count in the corner of the page. = 20 points

4. Collage: Create a collage with details you learned about the book with pictures.

● Includes 12 details from the book each is 25 words or more = 50 points

● Includes 5 pictures = 20 points

● Neatness = 10 points

● Colored & Creative = 20 points

ABC Book – Example pages:

B          B is for Barcroft. Barcroft or Barcroft University is the college that all the characters in the book, except for the parents or other older family members, attended. Barcroft is where everything started once all the friends met up again for their college years.Word count: 44

V is for Viv. Viv is one of the 4 main characters. Viv has one brother named David which is dating the main character. Viv is also best friends with Celeste, another one of the 4 main characters. Word count: 37
