League Match – 1 Infogain (I) Pvt. Ltd. Vs Ericsson (Pool-M)

Mr. Vishnu Bhagat (CFO of Reebok India Company) and Mr. S. C. Gupta, Dy Director D.D.A. inaugurated the 7th Eventus Cricket Tournament on CSG-I ground. Mr. Vishnu Bhagat played a delivery bowled by Mr. S.C. Gupta and they also released balloons as well. They gave best wishes to the participating teams. Infogain on winning the toss decided to bat but lost their opener in the 2nd over. Amit Mohan and Abhishek Puri shared 83 runs partnership in 11 overs wherein Amit Mohan was the main contributor with 51 runs. Later Vikas Dahiya and Onkar Shukla helped their team to put 155 runs on the board. Ericsson used 10 bowlers to complete 25 overs with Rajesh Mendiratta taking 4 wickets conceding just 13 runs from 3 overs. Ericsson added 29 runs for the opening wicket partnership but kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Later Rajesh Mendiratta (22 runs) and Sandeep Gulati (23 N.O.) shared 31 runs partnership to come close to the target. Ericsson required 14 runs from the last 9 deliveries but Chandeep (last batsman) played 3 deliveries without scoring a run and now the pressure was on Sandeep Gulati to score 14 runs from the last over. League Match – 2

Delhi High Court Vs Hewlett Packard (Pool-N) On winning the toss Delhi High Court chose to bat first on CSG-I ground. Opening pair added 26 runs but Sanjay and Sumit added 40 runs for 2nd wicket in 5 overs to encash the power play restrictions. Rakesh Chahar came in at the fall of 2nd wickets and played some excellent shots to score 42 runs of 33 deliveries and added 52 runs for the 4th wicket partnership with Kuldeep Parihar. Rakesh Chowdhary bowled brilliantly in the slog overs to take 4 wickets and restricted Delhi High Court to 179 runs. Vijayant Tomar dismissed Rajan Kapoor on the 1st delivery while Mukesh Singh dismissed the one down batsman to give another jolt. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals as none of the batsman entered double figures resulting in dismissal of entire team at the score of 66 runs. Genpact Vs. Kuehne & Nagel (Pool-F) Joginder Sehgal called correctly for Genpact and decided to bat first. Kuehne & Nagel got an early breakthrough, but Unmesh Raghavan and Manish Malhotra added 45 runs for the 2nd wickets in 4.4 overs. While Manish Malhotra stood at one end, other batsmen went after the bowlers. Manish Malhotra & Deepak Rana added 62 runs for the 6th wickets in just 7 overs and with the help of 31 extras Genpact reached a mammoth total of 230 runs on DDA Sports Complex, Dwarka. The pressure of chasing a huge total was evident from the fact that all the batsmen tried to slog the bowlers out resulting in seven batsmen being bowled and two got out L. B. W. Entire team collapsed on the score of 43 runs with highest contribution coming from 10 extra runs. Manoranjan Singh took 5 wickets while 3 and 2 wickets were taken by Vishal Samuel and Sahil Tagra respectively. It was a difficult decision to select Reebok Outperformer as Manish Malhotra scored undefeated 91 Not Out runs to carry his bat through the inning while Manoranjan Singh had superb bowling figures of 5-2-11-5. Luminous Technologies Vs Impetus Technologies (Pool-G) Amresh Pradhan called correctly and chose to bat first. Luminous lost both their openers when the score reached 25 runs and soon Sameer was also dismissed on the score of 48 runs. Sourabh and Narender shared 85 runs partnership to bail their team out of trouble scoring at the rate of more than 9 runs per over. Later Amresh Pradhan used the long handle to score quick fire 25 runs posting 207 runs on the board from 25 overs. Vibin Varghese was the only bowler to gain respect from the Luminous Technologies. He not only bowled economically but also took 4 wickets. Chasing a mammoth total Impetus lost their opener on the second delivery and soon was looking down the barrel with 6 batsmen back in the pavilion at the score of 60 runs after 11 overs. Vibin Varghese and Ravi Yadav shared 63 runs partnership from 8 overs just to bring some respectability to the total. Both the teams showed lot of generosity by conceding 42 and 35 extras. Prasar Bharti Vs. Expeditors (Pool-C) On winning the toss Expeditors decided to bat first and started with a bang scoring 39 runs in the first power play but 3 quick wickets fell by the time score reached 50 runs. Ravindra and Saurav shared 74 runs partnership for the 4th wicket in 9.4 overs to bring their side in a strong position but later order batsmen could not score quick runs in the slog overs and as a result could manage to put only 170 runs on the board. Duli Chand took 3 wickets while Rajan and Baljeet shared 2 wickets each. Prasar Bharti went for the run chase with a positive frame of mind and scored 82 runs for the opening wicket in 7.2 overs. Vodafone Vs. Kingfisher Airlines (Pool-I) Kingfisher decided to bat first on winning the toss at CSG – I ground where wickets was ideal for batting. Their openers used the field restriction well to score 60 runs from 7.2 overs. Batsmen to follow could not encash the superb start and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Saurabh Saggar (21 runs) and Prayas Khanna (20 not out runs) enabled Kingfisher to score 152 runs before being bowled out with 8 deliveries remaining. Rajinsh Vasudeva and Sumit Sharma got 3 wickets each while Ajay Bhartwal and Gautam Sharma chipped in with 2 wickets a piece. Kingfisher got an early breakthrough when Tarun disturbed the furniture of Vijay Baisla but Deepak Chawla & Gautam Sharma shared 133 runs undefeated partnership to win the match with the bonus point. Both the batsmen complimented each other by running hard and did not miss a single chance to take a run. It was a treat to watch them chase a target with lot of ease. FCS Limited Vs. Aricent Technologies (Pool-D) Rajiv Trehan won the toss & decided to field first on Ramjas Sport Complex. The decision to field first paid rich dividends as Vinay Yadav & Anup Kumar moved the ball appreciably to remove top 6 batsmen by the time score reached 37 runs. Amit Puri played sensibly & applied himself to score 28 runs. With the help of 23 extras Aricent Managed to put 69 runs on the board. Chasing 69 runs was never going to be a difficult task but Jalaj Puri took 2 wickets in his first over to give a shock to FCS limited. Vinay Yadav & Anirvan shared 36 runs for the 3rd wicket to recover their side from early shock. Jalaj Puri once again brought a twist in this match when he dismissed both the set batsmen. Harjit & Rahul enabled FCS Ltd. to reach the target on the last delivery of 10th over bringing a convincing victory for their side. OPTO Group Vs. Prasar Bharti (Pool-C) Openers of Opto Group went after the bowlers from the word go when their captain called correctly & decided to bat. Kanwal Wadhwan came in at the fall of 1st wicket and played some elegant shots through the covers to complete his half century off just 40 deliveries. Kanwal Wadhwan and Yogesh Sharma added 95 runs for the 4th wicket in 13.1 overs to the take score past 150 runs. Kanwal Wadhwan could not reach his century but remained not out on the score of 93 runs enabling his side to post a huge total of 197 runs. Prasar Bharti after losing an early wicket was never in with the chance to win the match. Madhu Sudan Joshi (24 runs) & P.S. Khurana (21 runs) played well to score 128 runs from their allotted 25 overs. Freedy, Ranjan & Yoginder took 2 wickets each. Price Waterhouse Coopers Vs. HUDCO (Pool-O) The captain of HUDCO won the toss and decided to make first use of the wicket. Dilbagh & Jatinder provided a decent start of 27 runs which was further consolidated by 34 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Later Shashi Bhushan (24 runs), V.K. Shukla (25 runs) and Mukesh Kumar (24 runs) played sensibly to put 169 runs on the board after the completion of allotted 25 overs. Neeraj Jain took 3 wickets while Aman Chanda took 2 wickets and bowled economically too. Chasing approximately 7 runs an over, PWC lost 2 wickets in the 1st over. Dhruv Dhanda (17 runs) & Aman Chanda (11 runs) shared 35 partnership for the 3rd wicket & this laid the foundation for the big partnership to follow. Aman Chanda & Siddharth Jain added 100 runs for the 4th wicket to take the match away from HUDCO & when it looked that PWC is going for an easy victory, V.K. Shukla not only dismissed Aman but also took 2 more wickets to bring a twist in the match. PWC required 23 runs from the last 4 overs but HUDCO dropped the catch of Siddharth Jain & he ensured victory for PWC with just 2 balls to spare. Siddharth Jain played sensibly under pressure to win the match for his side but Reebok Outperformer was given to Aman Chanda for his chanceless knock of 54 runs & he also claimed 2 wickets. Reebok India Company Vs. Infogain (I) Pvt. Ltd. (Pool-M) Vishnu Bhagat did not hesitate to bat first when he called correctly. A bad call from Mayur Bora resulted in the dismissal of GP Singh who walked back without even facing a delivery. Prashant Singh & Mayur Bora added 51 runs in 7.1 overs to cover for the loss of G. P. Singh. At the total score of 71 runs Prashant Singh also walked back to pavilion when his individual score was 32 runs. Saurabh Malik & Devashish took their time to adjust with the pace & bounce of the wicket and after 16 overs they changed gears to share 81 runs partnership from 9 overs. Manish joined Saurabh and he did a superb job of providing all the strike to Saurabh who was now hitting mercilessly at each & every delivery to the fence. They shared 69 runs undefeated partnership for the 5th wicket from just 5.3 overs to put 221 runs on the board. Nipun Garg and Amit Mohan gave a superb start to Infogain by sharing 72 runs partnership for the opening wicket but were far behind the asking run rate. Introduction of spin did the trick for Reebok as Anish removed top 3 batsmen & Manish Marwah removed the remaining two. Infogain required 67 runs from the last over to win the match & 21 runs to save the bonus point. The casual attitude of Anil Sharma did cost Reebok dearly as he conceded 22 runs by bowling 6 wides, a no ball & 15 runs came from the bat. Captain of NIIT Ltd. was leading from the front by sharing 98 runs partnership for the opening wicket where in his contribution was of 58 runs. Bank of America Vs. Tricolite (Pool-J) Bank of America decided to bat first on winning the toss. Baljindar & Vaibhav gave a superb start by putting up 77 runs opening wicket partnership in 10 overs. Nokia Vs. Motorola (Pool-Q) Wicket had some moisture but still Nokia chose to bat first against Motorola after winning the toss. Murthy and Ranjit provided a superb start with 57 runs coming from 7 overs. Ashwani and Murthy further strengthened their team total with 63 runs partnership for the second wicket from 9.3 overs. Though Delhi High Court lost two wickets at the score of 24 runs, Sumit Dalal (47 runs) and Kuldeep Parihar (34 not out) shared 98 runs partnership in 11.3 overs to bring their side back in the match. ICICI Bank Vs. Reliance ADA Group (Pool-P) Sanjeev Lakra decided to bat first when he called correctly but lost Christie Joshi on the 2nd delivery when Manik Kumar brought one in to hit the stumps. ICICI Bank was fielding with 10 players for 1 hour and 10 minutes as Sachin Mehta was not on the ground. Xansa Vs. Aegis BPO (Pool - K) Atul Gupta of Xansa had no hesitation in deciding to bat first on winning the toss. Bubbal Mehra went after the bowlers from the word go as he scored 20 runs from 14 deliveries. Vikas Keer and Pankaj Kalia batted sensibly to share 108 runs partnership from 13.4 overs to lay the foundation for a big total. Later Amit Wadhwa and Sudhir Joshi shared 26 runs undefeated partnership from last 13 deliveries to cross the mark of 200 runs and post a total of 213 on the board. FCS Limited Vs Apollo Tyres (Pool - D) Dheeraj Sharma of Apollo Tyres called correctly & chose to field first as wicket had some moisture in it. Rajeev Trehan was dropped when he had not even opened his account & he utilized this opportunity to the maximum by scoring 31 runs. Surinder Dhaiya bowled brilliantly using the conditions to his advantage and conceded only 10 runs from his 5 overs wherein he took 2 wickets and bowled 2 maiden overs. The batsmen to follow did not apply themselves & FCS Ltd. kept on losing wickets at regular intervals managing only 125 runs that too when Karan Trehan (17 not out) and Amit Khajuriya (15 runs) added 35 runs for the 9th wicket. Reliance ADA Group Vs. Alcatel-Lucent (Pool - P) Alcatel-Lucent Team, who is participating for the first time in the tournament, won the toss and decided to bat first. Bhaskar & Aijaz added 32 runs for the 1st wicket in 4.3 overs but lost 2nd wicket at the score of 46 runs. In came their captain (Shashi Verma ) & he along with Aijaz added 83 runs for the 3rd wicket in 13 overs playing some lovely drives to remain undefeated on the score of 79 runs helping his team to put 168 runs on the board from their allotted 25 overs. For Reliance their captain too bowled well to take 3 wickets conceding only 24 runs Reliance suffered a big blow when their hard hitting batsman (Christly Joshi) walked back to the pavilion and Salim Mian dismissed Manas & Sultan in his first over to provided a double break for Alcatel-Lucent. HSBC Vs Vodafone (Pool - I) Vodafone won the toss and decided to bat first as they were one player short. They lost an early wicket when Amit Singla hit the woods of Vijay Bisla but Deepak Chawla and Ravinder Singh added 55 runs for the second wicket. Due to knock of Deepak Chawla (44 runs) and 25 extras Vodafone managed to put 125 runs on the board. Amit Singla and Gagan bowled economically and also took 2 wickets each to restrict Vodafone for a modest total. Chasing a small target HSBC too lost an early wicket but Tamir and Shiraz added 39 for the 2nd wicket and later Rakesh Sharma (28 not out) and Girish Bakshi (30 not out) added 62 runs partnership in just 3.5 overs to complete the formality. It was disheartening to see a good side of Vodafone deliberately losing the match to play for EVENTUS Plate. Microsoft Vs Citi Group Global Services (Pool - L) Without a hesitation Sumit Saluja chose to bat first when he won the toss for Microsoft. Microsoft lost an early wicket and soon were in trouble when 3 wickets where down for 31 runs but Anshu More & Devinder shared 33 runs partnership and later Anshu More again shared 33 runs partnership with Nitin Verma to bail his team out of trouble. Batsmen to follow played reckless shots and Microsoft team was bowled out for 126 runs in 21.4 overs. Raj Gopal bowled brilliantly to take 4 wickets while Ajay Yadav claimed 2 wickets. Citi Group Global Services were shocked when Nitin Verma dismissed top 3 batsmen by the time score reached 8 runs at the end of 4th over. Narender & Sourabha Nema added 60 runs for the opening wicket in 8.5 overs only after being dropped twice. The captain of Orange Business Services had no hesitation in deciding to bat first after winning the toss on Palam-B ground. Sumit Sehgal was the only batsman to play with some authority and scored 24 runs while rest of the batsmen could not play long innings to make a mark. With contribution of 29 extra runs and 5 catches dropped by Motorola, Orange Business Services managed to put 142 runs on the board. Motorola started well to score 12 runs from the first over, but unfortunate run out of Dinesh brought the scoring rate down as Pankaj Gupta and Sudev Dass played cautiously to share 27 runs partnership from 7.4 overs. Later Sudev and Ashish added 33 runs from 4.2 overs to step up the run rate. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals while Sandeep Rajput scored quick-fire 24 runs from 16 deliveries to keep the hopes alive for Motorola. 24 runs were required from the last 2 overs and 10 runs from the last over. Pritam Paul (45 runs) & Ranjit Narayan (31 Not Out) got Nokia to a blazing start as they added 86 runs from 9.4 overs. Awaiz gave IBM a start of 73 runs to lay the foundation for a big total and the batsmen to follow kept the momentum going by adding 50 runs for the second wicket between Deepankar and Amit, 49 runs between Amit and Pradeep and 51 runs for the undefeated partnership between Chandan Singh and Amit enabled IBM-Daksh to put a huge total of 213 runs. Captain of Apollo Tyres asked Aricent Communications to bat first as wicked had moisture due to over night dew. Aricent took the challenge as their openers Amit Puri (49 runs) & Vidur Krishan (35 runs) played cautiously during the first 5 overs & then changed gears to put up 100 runs partnership (as far as our memory goes this is the first 100 runs partnership for the opening wicket in the tournament) in 14 overs. Later Jalaj Puri & Kaustabh added 60 runs in 7.5 overs enabling their side to put 188 runs on the board with the help of 36 extras. Apollo Tyres team was penalized for 1 over as they took 15 minutes extra to complete their quota of 25 overs. Apollo Tyres did get a start of 28 runs but could not build a good partnership to go for the run chase. Ravinder Malik stood at one end scoring undefeated 60 runs while the other good contribution came from Rajat Kataria who made 21 runs. Bank of America Vs Royal Bank of Scotland (Pool-J) Electing to bat on winning the toss at Palam-B ground, Royal Bank of Scotland lost quick wickets when Ankit Jain and Anirudh Singh took 2 wickets each.
