TRANSCRIPT
Dear Hunger Bowl Friends,
Last year, through your efforts, 488,000 pounds of food
was collected by all of our participants. Thank you for
your participation in this meaningful event.
At the Food Bank we work hard every day of the year to
make sure that each child, family, and senior in our com-
munity that needs our help receives it. Last year, we dis-
tributed 10.6 million pounds of food to those in need.
That’s why I’m writing to you today. No one should go
hungry, especially during the holidays. We work with over 375 product partners to
secure food for more than 240 food pantries, emergency shelters, soup kitchens,
and other hunger relief organizations. We need your help this Thanksgiving!
7th Annual Hunger Bowl
A two-week long food drive leading up to Thanksgiving.
Hunger Bowl 2019 begins October 25, 2019, and continues through November 8,
2019. Early registration begins September 13 and ends on October11. Receive 100
bonus points by registering during the early registration period.
Please note: Our kick off breakfast has been moved to the Graduate Athens and
will take place on Thursday, October 24th at 8:00 am.
Last year the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia set a goal to collect 450,000
pounds of food through a friendly competition between individuals, groups, busi-
nesses, and civic organizations to see who could collect the most food based upon
a per person average. We collected over 488,000 pounds or 400,000 meals. This
year our goal is to collect at least 500,000 pounds!
Can we count on you again this year? We believe that this would be an extraor-
dinary opportunity for your business or group to be associated with an organiza-
tion that will feed thousands this holiday season, and for your employees to give
back at a time when so many think about feeding the hungry. I have enclosed a
registration form detailing this years event.
Thank you for your interest in helping to fight hunger. If you should have ques-
tions please feel free to contact Susan at [email protected] or
call 706-354-8191.
All the best,
Susan Your Hunger Bowl Team Coordinator

Getting Started
As our community partner, you and your co-workers can help
close the meal gap in our community in just 5 easy steps. In addi-
tion to providing food or funds to support the vital work of the
Food Bank, organizing an employee campaign also provides vol-
unteer hours which benefit the Food Bank in many ways. Please
keep track of the number of hours you and your team put into or-
ganizing and conducting this campaign and submit the total to the
Food Bank staff at the end of your campaign.
5 Easy Steps 1. Form a team to help organize and conduct this campaign. The
size of the team depends on the size of your group.
2. Set a time frame for this campaign. The length of the campaign
depends on the size of your group.
3. Choose one or more of the creative ideas in this toolkit and set
a goal of raising $5 or 25 pounds or more per employee. (a $5
monetary donation is equivalent to 20 meals)
4. Inspire and educate others. Promote your food drive regularly
during the duration of the campaign. See ideas within this
toolkit to create excitement.
5. Thank and recognize those co-
workers or group members that
participated in the campaign.

Ideas for a Successful Campaign
Promotion Promotion is the key to any successful campaign. Start building awareness for
your event a few weeks in advance. Here are some key strategies to use when
promoting the event:
Hang posters around the office
Inform group of progress using emails and eblasts
Make daily announcements – especially if you have an
intercom system
Write an article about the campaign and prominently
place in the newsletter.
Give out candy such as life savers, fireballs, extra gum,
now & laters
Life savers – you just might save someone’s life with your gift
Fireballs – get fired up about the campaign
Extra Gum – thanks for going the extra mile
Now & Later – what you do now will make a difference later
Competitions: Create competitions between groups
(shifts, departments, floors, grades) to see who will col-
lect the most money or goods. Groups compete for
prizes or bragging rights.
Donation Bags: One of the most successful corporate
tactics! Plastic or paper bags are gathered or printed and
given especially to employees. They are taken home and
filled with food and returned. The bags remind employ-
ees of the food drive and make it easy to transport the
food.
Jeans\Casual Day: Allow individuals to wear jeans or
other type of dress (sports team t-shirts) if they meet their
campaign goal. Host competitions between groups
(dept., floors, grades) to see who collects the most food.
Winners get to wear special clothes for a day. You can
also sell dress down passes for employees to purchase
for the privilege of dressing down. All proceeds to benefit the Food Bank of North-
east Georgia.
Make a “Canstruction”: Use your creative talents to build replicas of building,
bridges, pyramids or any other structure using cans. Then donate the entire struc-
ture to the Food Bank. You can have contests among groups and award prizes to
1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
More Information Sample emails, letters, and e-blasts are
available and can be emailed to your
campaign coordinator upon request. A poster
for your barrels can be found on page 8 of
this handbook.
All donations are tax deductible & an
individual receipt can be provided for both
monetary and food donations.
Barrels are available for food collection. We
asked that campaign coordinators or someone from your
organization pick up the barrels from the Food Bank or get them at
our Kick Off Breakfast.
