7 C’s of Business Communication

Building effective communication skills is essential for anyone who wants to succeed in business or personal relationships. These communication skills, both oral and written, are the foundation for helping you express yourself clearly and correctly.

Completeness

Communication is effective or complete when it contains all the necessary information the audience needs for the result you desire. While this may sound simple, it can be challenging to try to interpret the audience's viewpoints before you craft the message.

Conciseness

People are perpetually busy and don't have time to sort through a lot of clutter. Effective communication succeeds without being too wordy. Say or write as little as possible to get your point across, and your message will be easier to comprehend.

Consideration

Always craft your message with the receiver in mind. It shows that you understand your audience, which goes a long way to getting your desired result. Consideration simply means you show empathy in your communication style.

Concreteness

Communication should be specific and avoid the vague or general. You can keep it interesting by using action words, along with facts and/or figures, whenever possible.

Clarity

Communicating with clarity means getting the message through to your audience plainly so they won't misinterpret what you are trying to say. Be sure to use the right language level for your audience, whether communicating verbally or through the written word.

Courteousness

Courteous communication not only takes into account the audience's reaction to your message but also their feelings. Just like consideration, it's important to understand your audience and their emotions as you craft your message.

Correctness

Make sure your message is correct, and double-check that you are using the proper grammar, spelling and punctuation when writing a communication. Likewise, it's equally important to use accuracy in pronunciation when delivering your message verbally.
