1. Purpose of Position
This position will coordinate the Volunteering in Sport Project for Curtin Volunteers!. The Project is a
partnership between the Department of Sport and Recreation, Volunteering Western Australia and
the five West Australian university volunteer hubs. The position will be responsible for identifying local
sporting clubs and recreation groups, assessing their volunteer needs, scoping projects and
ultimately providing volunteers to meet their needs. This will support the two key objectives of the
Project which are to:
1. Engage university students from metropolitan and regional areas to volunteer in a sport andrecreation context.
2. Assist sport and active recreation clubs in metropolitan and regional areas to engage
university students in volunteering to support one-off events and ongoing programs.
2. Accountabili ties and Responsibil ities
Stakeholder engagement
Identify volunteering opportunities within sporting and recreation clubs.
Develop and maintain excellent stakeholder relationships particularly with Volunteering WesternAustralia, the Department of Sport and Recreation and relevant sporting and recreation clubs.
Project management
Manage volunteering opportunities from planning to execution.
Marketing and promotion
Assist with the promotion of volunteer vacancies to the student population.
Volunteer management
Recruit volunteers.
Prepare and supply volunteers with relevant information and forms prior to commencement of theiractivity.
Where applicable, conduct briefings, inductions and debriefings for project volunteers.
Where applicable, lead volunteer group(s) through activities.

Risk management
Prepare all relevant Health and Safety Risk Assessments for the volunteer opportunities.
Administration
Maintain accurate project and volunteer information including a log of volunteer hours.
Collect relevant data and information to support the grant acquittal process.
Provide regular reports outlining the progress and effectiveness of the program.
Organisational understanding
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of University policies, procedures and legislation which impact
upon work activities and their outcome.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of CV! guidelines and procedures.
Compliancy and legislative knowledge
Comply with University policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
Meet Occupational Health and Safety, anti-discrimination, equal opportunity and other legislative
requirements.

This position sits within the portfolio of Curtin Support Services which brings together a range of
services for students and staff. All services are delivered within the framework of partnership and

Community Life encompasses Curtins interface with the wider community through student
volunteers, overseas students undertaking supervised Community Service, and through the Curtin
Leadership Centre.
