Competence Center Aerospace
So las-

The clear challenge facing the aerospace industry in the future will be to build aircraft that are lighter, faster and fly higher and further. We at Siemens, as a system provider of automation solutions for production plants and machine tools, would like to support our customers through all phases of their plant’s life. In order to pool our knowledge of every aspect of the re-quirements of this industry, we have established the Aerospace Competence Center.
The industry experts at our Competence Center combine knowledge of the industry and the current and future requirements of customers with pro-duct and system know-how and translate it into solutions designed to match customers’ needs. They work closely together with machine and system buil-ders and end customers.
Boosting productivity – through proven standards and individualized process conceptsIt makes an enormous financial difference for production whether a machine is running or at a standstill. Our solutions are geared to a sustained increase in availability, productivity and process quality. The fundamental concept is based on three pillars:
Introduction of cutting-edge technology for standardization Comprehensive competence in enhancing the effectiveness of the overall manufacturing processSupport to make the assembly and part verification processes more realistic.
Products and solutions tried and tested across the whole spectrum of in-dustry ensure a high degree of reliability right from the beginning. We active-ly promote standardization in all areas of automation in order to harness ad-ditional rationalization potential and further boost efficiency over the entire manufacturing process.
This allows industry-specific automation solutions geared to the individual customer requirements to be implemented on the basis of Totally Integrated

Automation (TIA) and SINUMERIK 840D, thereby increasing productivity whi-le offering a high level of investment security. With state-of-the-art technolo-gies, the aircraft industry can improve both the quality and cost-efficiency of its processes, for example by using RFID for contactless identification of com-ponents.
One point of contact for everythingThe Aerospace Competence Center also acts as coordinator for global pro-jects. This ensures that the customer has a expert partner to contact any-where in the world who can help by providing Siemens industry know-how. A dense network of local branches and points of contacts make this expertise available on the spot. At the same time, the Competence Center also creates central synergies by gathering and processing information and experiences from projects.
Thanks to our globally coordinated Aerospace Account Management, the customer has a central point of contact at Siemens. This contact arranges
the necessary contacts, devises integrated solutions and coordinates their implementation, regardless of the location of the participants who can be at Siemens, at the machine builder or at service providers.
For the customer, a central point of contact means less coordination work, faster implementation of solutions and greater plant availability. The pooling of process and automation know-how paves the way for maximum synergies and opens up perspectives unheard-of before.
And last, but not least, we want our customers in the aircraft industry to enjoy the most comprehensive service possible. Availability of their systems, for instance, can be maximized by tailored service contracts and intensive training of maintenance personnel on site and the cost efficiency of their production processes will be increased substantially. Another measure for maximizing plant availability is Internet-based condition monitoring which is made possible with the automation architecture of Totally Integrated Automation.
