01/05/93 MADADFNI / OSIZWFNI -IFP member, Mr Melusi Buthelezi, was killed by alleged ANC supporters.

01/05/93 NEWCASTLE / OSIZWFNI -The houses of two IFP members, Mr Ngwenya and Mr Masuku, were set alight by alleged ANC supporters.

01/05/93 WATTVILLF -Two IFP members were shot and killed by alleged ANC supporters armed with AK-47 assault rifles.

02/05/93 TIGANF -IFP mourners returning from the funeral of prominent IFP member, Mr Abel Motswagae (died of natural causes 13/04/93), were attacked by alleged ANC supporters.

As the IFP mourners were about to leave, they noticed ANC youths grouping around the only save exit route. These mourners then decided to use the other exit route from Tigane, which leads through the predominantly ANC supporting area. The mourners walked behind the bus, fearing an attack and not wanting to be trapped inside the bus.

Alleged ANC supporters started firing at them and IFP member, Mr Mthembu, was shot in the stomach During the attack it is alleged that the SAP was present and that when IFP supporters screamed at them to help, they did not respond.

The IFP supporters continued to move behind the bus and were attacked again as they were about to leave Tigane. Unidentified assailants opened fire from behind bushes and hereafter alleged ANC youths stoned them. An Internal Stability Unit van arrived at the scene and the officer asked the IFP supporters to qet back into the bus. At the same time another officer told them all to lie down.

The IFP supporters complied and laid down (85 persons, including women and children (aged 14 and 15))They were searched and then arrested.

These persons were charged with murder, public violence, possession of an illegal firearm and marching in a wit dorp (white town) without permission.

it appears that a person was shot in Tigane on the day of the funeral, that an AK-47 assault rifle was allegedly found on the bus (no person saw the weapon being found on the bus) and that Tigane directlyborders the town of Hartbeesfontein.

When IFP Organiser, Mr Jabulani Ngubane, (Mr Ngubane transported the injured Mr Mthembu to hospital and only arrived as the SAP was arresting the IFP supporters) went to the SAP station to ask what has happened and to lay charges concerning the above attacks, he was informed that he had 5 minutes to leave or otherwise he would be arrested for trespassing.

04/05/93 SEBOKENG -The house of Mr Paul Msibi was attacked and set alight by alleged gangsters (possible ANC youths, but denied by ANC and Civics). Miss Mapule Msibi was shot and killed in the attack. Hereafter the house, with Miss Msibi still inside, was set alight and Mrs Thakane Msibi sustained third-degree burn wounds.

It is alleged that the reason for the attack is because Miss Msibi was romantically involved with a resident of the predominantly IFP supporting KwaMadala hostel.

Tension arose after Miss Msibi recently visited her boyfriend for a short while at the KwaMadala hostel. When she returned, these youths abducted her and held her hostage for several days to question her about why she had gone to the hostel.

Miss Msibi again visited the hostel and returned to Sebokeng after the funeral of 19 persons killed on 19/04/91 at Sebokeng.

These youths, suspecting her of complicity in the killings returned to the Msibi house and demanded that she be handed over.

Mrs Msibi offered the youths money, but they refused it and shot Miss Msibi. The attackers then proceeded to set the house aiight.

It has also been reported that Mr Msibi is sought in question with the killing of three youths and the injuring of four others, who were allegedly involved in the attack on Mr Msibi's house.

A grandparent of one of the deceased youths claimed that the boy was an MK member, although this is denied by the local ANC. Other parents of the boys insist that they were not gangsters, (see Sunday Times 09/05/93)

SAP spokesperson Major Opperman stated that there were "rumours" that the attackers visited the premises after attending the IFP march. He also stated that the attackers and victims allegedly spoke Zulu.

The owner of the house stated that the attackers were ANC supporters from Natal. Another person also stated that Inkatha members would not kill each other, and that the shebeen owner said that he kwew the killers were ANC supporters.

The Rev Andrew Dodtchin, who was about two block from the attack, stated that the man was killed, because he did not want to join the IFP. (see The Star, May 10 1993)
