Article IX - Amendment
Section 1. These By-laws may be amended by a simple majority vote at any regular meeting.
Section 2. A thirty-day notice of the proposed changes must have been provided to the general members in order for the vote to occur.
Article X - Parlimentary Authority
In matters other than those specifically set forth in this document, the BG Rose Society shall be governed by regulations of the American Rose Society and the Modern Edition of Roberts’ Rules of Order.

Section 3. The Executive Committee of the Society shall consist of the three Officers of the Society, the Immediate Past President, the Editor of the Newsletter, and the Member-at-Large.
Article V - Meetings
Section 1. The regular meetings shall be held on the first Friday of the month except for bona fide reasons.
Section 2. Regular meetings will not be held in January and July.
Section 3. The Executive Committee shall meet as the President deems necessary.
Article VI - Election
Section 1. The President shall appoint a nominating committee to select a slate of the three officers and the member-at-large to be presented at the November meeting. The membership shall have the privilege of nominating from the floor.
Section 2. In the event of an illness, resignation, or death of an elected officer, the remaining term should be filled by the immediate past officer if available. In the event of the resignation or death of any committee chair or member, the President shall appoint another individual to fulfill that duty.
Article VII - Duties
Section 1. The President shall preside at general meetings and at Executive Committee meetings, shall appoint needed committees, and shall bear general responsibility for the Society. The President shall also receive and handle general correspondence as well as that from the American Rose Society and District Director.
Section 2. The Secretary shall keep minutes for the regular meetings and the Executive Committee meetings and maintain continuing files thereof.
Section 3. The Treasurer shall keep the books of the Society, sign checks, and prepare the books for the annual audit.
Section 4. The Executive Committee shall have limited authority to transact needful business of the society in order to expedite general meetings. The Executive Committee can also advise the President on such matters as programs, activities, and appointments, and can make recommendations to the general membership regarding major activities and business matters.
Article VIII - Funds
Section 1. Expenditures other than routine on-going expenses shall be approved by the membership.

Monthly meetings of the Bowling Green Rose Society are held the first Friday of each month (unless otherwise noted below). The location will be announced in the newsletter. Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. with Consulting Rosarians available for questions. The program begins at 7 p.m.

BGRS By-Laws
Article 1 - Charter
Section 1. This society shall be known as the BG Rose Society.
Section 2. This society shall not operate in any manner resulting in pecuniary profit or gain to its members. As an affiliate of the American Rose Society it is a non-profit organization exempt from income tax under Section 501 (C) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Article II - Objectives
The objectives of the society are to encourage interest in and cultivation of the rose; to be affiliated with the American Rose Society; to spread information about the growing of roses; and to share the love of the rose whenever and wherever possible.
Article III - Membership
Section 1. All persons who are in any way interested in growing roses shall be eligible for membership.
Section 2. Members of the Bowling Green Rose Society are encouraged to join the American Rose Society. Dues for the American Rose Society are paid directly by the member to the American Rose Society.
Section 3. Local dues, as voted by the local society, are payable to the BG Rose Society and are to be paid at the February meeting as a renewal of membership for the current year. (Currently, the local dues are $15 per person.) (Amended 5-2-08)
Section 4. Each member shall be entitled to one vote on all matters brought before the society.
Section 5. The members present at a regular meeting shall constitute a quorum.
Article IV - Officers
Section 1. The elected officers of the Society shall be a President, a Secretary, and a Treasurer. A Member-at-Large shall also be elected to serve on the Executive Committee.
Section 2. No officer or member-at-large shall serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office. A term is one year in length, January through December.
MONTHLY IN-CLUB COMPETITION JUNE - NOVEMBER
The competition shall consist of ONE entry per member in each of the following classes: One bloom per stem, except for sprays. Groom and fill in tags as if entering a regular rose show. Judges will comment on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice. The top scorer in horticulture and arrange-ments will be recognized at the December meeting.
Class 1—1 Single Bloom Hybrid Tea/Grandiflora Class 2—Single Bloom Miniature Class 3—1 Single Bloom Floribunda Class 4—1 Floribunda or Miniature Spray Class 5—Specimen, Any Other Type Class 6—Arrangements (Type TBA in Rosebuds & website)
