La bohème
To be young, in love, and in Paris…the magic of the famous Latin Quarter and Puccini’s unmatched ability to capture love’s passion, hope, and sorrow have made La bohème one of the world’s best loved operas. Audiences have never stopped returning to revel in this moving story and Puccini’s famous score since its debut in 1896. If you’ve never seen La bohème, don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to enjoy one of the world’s most popular operas. And if you have, all the excitement, glorious arias, and heartbreak will thrill you once again.La bohème is made possible by a generous gift from Randy Gage.

The Magic Flute
MOZART
Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute), Mozart’s operatic masterpiece, reveals some of opera’s most beloved characters as they play out the timeless drama of good versus evil: the vengeful Queen of the Night, her conflicted daughter Pamina, the charming bird catcher Papageno, and the handsome prince Tamino. It is the enlightened Sarastro, though, who thwarts the Queen of the Night’s attack and breaks her power forever. This fairy tale work was written to provide popular, even slapstick entertainment for a rustic theater on the outskirts of Vienna, but its harmonic structure and beautiful music have made it a key monument of Western classical music. Ever since its 1791 premiere it continues to be one of the world’s most frequently-performed operas.

La sonnambulaBELLINI
Amina, a simple village girl, is believed to be unfaithful to her lover, but she is vindicated when it is discovered that her nighttime wanderings are carried out in her sleep. Vincenzo Bellini’s operas are among the finest of the bel canto style. Bel canto, or “beautiful singing,” is noted for its challenging coloratura ornamentation and long, exposed musical lines. La sonnambula features some of the most beautiful and original music in all of opera and a passionate and deservedly famous conclusion. One of the most iconic Aminas of her time, Renata Scotto directs.Photo of Ms. Scotto © Marty Umans.

La traviataVERDI
She was one of the most desirable women in Paris but was labeled by society as “la traviata,” a woman who has gone astray. When she at last meets a young man with whom she truly falls in love, his father demands a supreme sacrifice from her to save the family’s reputation. Her broken heart and the disease that ravages her body bring her to an early and tragic death. Verdi’s Violetta Valéry is one of opera’s most sublimely drawn characters, and La traviata has continued to captivate audiences for more than 150 years. Verdi’s glorious music and Violetta’s moving demise make La traviata one of grand opera’s most compelling experiences.

HALFAN OPERA?Imagine Samson without Delilah, Roméo sans Juliette. From Aida to Die Zauberflöte, opera is a complete experience. You would not want to settle for half an opera…and, yet, someday, if you simply purchase a ticket, you might have to do just that.
Ticket sales cover only half the cost of producing opera. The other half must come from contributions – gifts, grants, and sponsorships from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government. Your contributions generate fully one half of the revenue that we need to produce opera for our community.
Just think what you can accomplish with a gift to Florida Grand Opera! You can help introduce a child to the world of music, give a Young Artist the chance to launch a great career, sponsor a master class with a legendary star of the operatic world, and support productions and performances that enrich the lives of people of all ages and generate memories for a lifetime.
We can do all that…and you can help …with a gift to Florida Grand Opera.
