LOVE ME 9: TEDDY BEAR 10: AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL HQ / Changing Room for Clam Festival Gents, I hope you all are well and gearing up for a great weekend! Just a quick note to confirm our meeting / changing location for our performance during the Clam Festival this Saturday, 7.21.2012. We have arranged for the First Universalist Church to be open for our group at 12:00 noon. Please note that Jack has asked for all chorus members to arrive no-later-than 2:00 p.m. as our performance is scheduled for 3:30. Here is the address to the church: First Universalist Church 97 Main Street Yarmouth, ME Also, it will be important that you plan ahead for parking as you will most likely not be able to access the church with your car due to the blocked / closed streets for the festival. The church is within an easy walking distance from our performance venue (same as last year). Finally, our room within the church will be the "Library Common Room." The access to this room is located on the right side of the church when you enter through the administrative entrance. Have a great rest of your week and let's bring a great performance to the Clam Festival. See you all soon. Respectfully, Ryan Norfleet (207) 253-9433 New Music Schedule 1. Notes of Interest ………………………………………………………… Please send notes of your quartet’s outings, Shows that you have seen, Quartet or Chorus news from around New England to: [email protected] Preparing for the New England Harmony Brigade Here are some pictures from the NEHB 7/15/2012 Sheep Island run-through. To make travel easy for NEHB participants from Maine, I organized a repertoire run-through at our family cottage on Sheep Island in East Harpswell only a short boat ride from Cundy's Harbor on the New Meadows River. We'd like more Downeasters to join us for this great quarteting event next year. All together we had two tenors and the rest of the parts covered. Fortunately we were able to attract a good bari from Goffstown, NH to participate in this run-through. Enjoy the photos.

3. Jean and Vivian Murray joined us on Saturday to spread the long drive from Goffstown, NH. over two days. Great food and company were enjoyed by all!

4. Tim Wyant, an experienced brigade tenor, joined us for this run-through.

6. After good work reviewing the first 9 Brigade songs we give ourselves a reward with a boat tour of the New meadows River and Casco Bay. The weather could not have been better.

7. And finally, we all enjoyed a late afternoon meal of grilled hamburgers, fresh corn on the cob and piquant green bean salad followed by homemade blueberry pie! All of which proves that barbershoppers have more fun!

Al Sargent I challenge you... I challenge you to host as good a run-through as we had this past weekend! Al Sargent (tenor) and his wife, Mary Lou, hosted a run through on Sunday at their "camp" on Sheep Island, Maine. The participants asked what we could bring, and we were repeatedly told "just your voice." Sheep Island - just off Harspswell - is only accessible by boat, and has no power or pressurized water. That meant no iPads, no constant phone interruptions, no computers, no cars honking - just the occasional sailboat with full sails maneuvering around the lobster buoy laden inlet. A beautiful cottage, a boat ride around the harbor (including sights of Eagles, Osprey nests, Seals, and some of the most spectacular rock-bound coastline that is the envy of the planet), and a wonderful lunch of burgers, corn, three bean salad and HOMEMADE blueberry pie (with blueberries grown right on the island). Oh - and then there was the singing! Five guys singing great music, working together, helping each other, and well-prepared (well, on most of the songs anyway ;-) ). We hit our targets on the second set of 5 songs, and reviewed the first set. We even made a pass at "South Rampart Street." I believe this is the best part of Barbershop. When the music, and the brotherhood, and the bonding come together to make a spectacular experience. If you haven't gotten to a run-through, find one. They are worth the trip. If you can't find one, host one. Maybe you don't have an island, or a cottage, or your own private reserve of blueberries - but you can certainly make your run-through a captivating time, with music and fun and friends. That is the heart of this craft. Tom Misner, Bass Waterville, Maine
