Topic : Light, Colour and Sight
Subtopic : 7.1 Synthesising the formation of image by plane mirrors and lenses
Objectives : Understanding the step to draw the diagram when the ray of light pass through the convex lenses and concave lens Understanding the characteristics of image formed by the convex lens when distance between the lens on the object varies.
Learning Outcome: By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
a) Draw the ray diagram when the rays of light pass through the lens.b) Understand the step to draw the ray diagramc) Draw the ray diagram when distance between the convex lens on the object variesd) State the characteristics of image formed by the convex lens when distance between the lens on the object variese) State the characteristics of image formed by the concave lens
Scientific and Thinking Skills : Observing, identifying, classifying, comparing and contrasting, analyzing, reasoning
Pre-requisite knowledge : Students should be already able to:
a) state the characteristics of images formed by a plane mirror,b) label the raw diagram when the parallel ray pass through the lensc) State the rules to draw the Ray Diagram
Teaching and learning approaches : 1) Set induction
a) State learning outcome: Student know what they will get for today’s lessonb) Constructivism approach: -Student try to analyze which one is the convex lens and which one is the concave lens
-Students try to observe and analyze the image formed by concave and convex lens on their own
- Students try to make conclusion about the image formed by the concave lens and convex lens
2 ) Development phase:
a) Interactive approach : Student observe and analyze the image formed by the convex lens from the distant object\
b) Promote analytical thinking : Why human can see the things in surrounding are upright although the images formed on the retina are
upright?
c) Guided learning and expository approach in the developmental phase
Teaching aids / technology : 1. Power point Slide- Aid in deliver the content
2. Whiteboard, ruler, marker, and Power point slide - Aid in drawing the ray diagram
3. convex and concave lens, , spectacles, torchlight – Student can observe the formation of the image
through lens in real
Scientific attitudes and noble values : Enthusiasm in learning, cooperative, Gathering information with patient, confidence, respect,
Appreciating scientist’s contribution to human, appreciating God’s creation , Believe in God

Induction
Phase
[ 10 minute]
Teacher check their homework
State the learning outcomes.
Convex lens
Analyze the characteristic of the image formed when looking at the near object through the convex lens, concave lens , on the whiteboard
Appreciating scientist’s contribution
to human
Motive: Teacher want to make them
appreciate other’s contribution
understand the concept and apply it
in real life
Teacher checks their homework and ask them to keep all other book in their bag.
Teacher tells them to stress more on this topic
since this topic always come out in SPM question.
Teacher let them to read the learning outcome
Give analogy on how to remember the
differences between convex and concave.
Teacher ask:
What can u see???
Upright or upside down???
Magnified or diminished? Real or virtual?
Teacher use the torchlight and the lens to show
the image on the board and the application of the
lens
Scientists have contributed many optical
instruments that benefits human such as slide
projector, microscope, telescope, camera,
Student put
the homework
on the table.
1. Answer the
question given
by the teacher
Tools
Lens ,torchlight,
black paper
Whiteboard
Moral value
Respect, compare
and contrast
Appreciating
scientist’s
contribution to
human
• Describe image formed
magnifying glass.
Contrast between real and virtual image
Teacher ask:
1. What u can see? Any idea about it?
2. Can u guess this is convex lens or concave
lens?
3. Try to look the board using your concave
lens and convex lens.
4. Describe image formed
5. Can u make the conclusion?

(± 20 minit)
Show the formation of the imageWhen the distant object pass through the lens
Teacher asks the student to come and observe
the characteristics of the image formed from the
distant object ( school building)
Teacher tell them on how to find the focal length
State all the characteristics:
• Image formed?
• Answer the previous question:
Why human can see the things in
surrounding are upright although the
Student listen
and answer

Moral Value
Appreciate the
creation of God
analytical thinking
Rules to step to draw the ray diagramConvex lens Concave
images formed on the retina are upright?
Those who can answer can get the reward
Answer: Brain will automatically correct this
Appreciate the unique of God’s creation.
Teacher tells them that they have to master the
rule and the aim of ray diagram.
There are millions of ray of light, come from
many directions.
But in this lesson, u have to learn and remember
only three direction
Teacher ask them to read the step
Teacher asks for volunteer to draw in front of the
class
Teacher randomly call their name to draw in front
Student look at
the textbook
while listen to
teacher’s
explanation.
Students come
in front and
draw.

Development
phase
30 minutes
• Draw the ray diagram when distance between the convex lens on the object varies
• State the characteristics of image formed by the convex lens when distance between the lens on the object varies
In the previous lesson , student have learn the
rules to draw the diagram,
Still remember the rules?
Teacher asks for volunteer to draw in front of the
class
Student try to
draw on the
whiteboard

Evaluation :
Where we must put the object if we want to use
the convex lens as magnifying glass?
• Between F and optical centre
Any question???
