PRE-INSTALLATION - Device Identity: Address wheels

For system recognition and response, Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer Address Wheels must be set. Addresses can be either manually selected

and entered into LiteWare® Design and Programming Software, or LiteWare can auto assign device addresses. (See Fig. 2)

Note: - When you set the address of the device, both Station and Module communication will utilize the same address.

- Addresses that are called out at the time of order are preset at the factory. Address wheels must be set at each device.

- Available address range is “00” thru “FF”; 256 possible addresses. Maximum of 64 Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers per system.

- Address 00 is reserved for Local Mode. In Local Mode, the Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer will allow for control of only the local

load that the device is attached to. Local load control on one and three button wall box dimmers is on the middle button.

Local load control on six button wall box dimmers is on the top left button.

INSTALLATION - Overview & Multi-Gang Installation Preparation

Wiring for the Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer consists of both High Voltage Wiring and Low Voltage Wiring (required for Wired mode).

Connections are made via two different wiring methods:

1. RJ-45 Connector. Eight wires allowing for Station and Module Bus

communication over a CAT-5 cable.(Required for Wired Mode).

2. High Voltage Connector. Five terminal lugs for solid AWG High Voltage

wires (ROMEX) used to power the wall box dimmer, the local load and

allow for 3-way control. (See Fig. 5)

Avoid Crowding the Wires

Too many wires forced behind the Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer may indirectly

apply pressure on the device that may damage the unit. To avoid this, do

not crowd the high-voltage wires and wire nuts behind the device.

Prior to installation, ensure plastic terminal guard is properly connected. This

will provide additional protection from shorts due to over-crowded wiring.

Note: For ease of installation, deep back boxes are recommended.

Multi-Gang Installation

To create a multi-gang wall box dimmer, a LiteTouch multi-gang alignment

ring must be utilized. To attach the alignment ring to the wall box dimmer,

tighten the four screws per gang (two top and two bottom). This will evenly

position each single gang Wall Box Dimmer within the multi-gang metal

alignment ring allowing for a smooth faceplate attachment. (See Fig. 4)

Note: Any Designer Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers designed in LiteWare, and

ordered with complete design guides will be preassembled with the

multi-gang alignment ring at the LiteTouch factory.

LOW VOLTAGE WIRING - Preparation & Pre-Wire Instructions

To Pre-Wire for Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers, used in “WIRED” mode, pre-wire by

running, in series, CAT5 cable to each location.

Note: Ensure the low voltage wiring in the backbox is inserted into the

600 volt rated sleeve included. Failure to do so may result in an

electrical code violation and failure to pass inspection.

CAT5 wiring insulation must run up to the RJ-45 connector. Do

not strip off additional insulation. YOU MAY RUN THE RISK OF

FIRE IF INSULATION IS REMOVED BEYOND THE CONNECTOR.

A maximum of 16 Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers can be run in a series. Do not

exceed 1000 feet per run. At the start of each run, pull a CAT5 cable from

the wall box dimmer to the location of the LiteTouch CCU. Be sure to terminate

at the end of each run.

If no enclosures are being used, pull the CAT5 cable directly to the FIVEk,

Standard or Compact CCU location. Follow the instructions below to tie the CAT5 Cable into LiteTouch Station & Module Bus.

3-Way InstallationWhen installing Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer for 3-way functionality installation can

be completed either RF Wireless, CAT 5 Wired or ROMEX Wired.

RF Wireless (No-Load) ConnectionThis method requires two Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers with both devices in RF

(Wireless) Mode. The first Wall Box Dimmer will control the Load and the

second is to be used as a no-load button to signal the first Wall Box Dimmer

that the load is requested to toggle On/Off. (See Fig. 7)

Note: - System must be programmed via LiteWare® in order to function

as desired. LEDs will update per LiteWare® programming.

- There are 64 available addresses per Hybrid Wall Box Systems.

All Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers on the system including the No-Load

device each count as 1 of the 64 available addresses.

CAT 5 Wired Connection

The CAT 5 wired connection method requires two Hybrid Wall Box Dimmers

with both devices in Wired Mode. The first Wall Box Dimmer will control the

Load and the second is to be used as a no-load button to signal the first Wall

Box Dimmer that the load is requested to toggle On/Off. (See Fig. 8)

ROMEX Wired- NEW Hybrid 3-Way Device (Available January 2010)

The ROMEX wired method of 3-way installation requires connecting the

Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer to the load to be controlled, and wiring a “Traveler”

wire (usually red) from the Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer across ROMEX wire to

a Hybrid 3-way Device (Available January 2010).

The Line, Neutral and Ground wires are carried straight across. The

“Traveler” wire goes from 3-way terminal to 3-way terminal without any

voltage or ground connections. (Fig. 9 & Fig.10 illustrate same connection,

two wiring options)

Note: Follow standard Wall Switch wiring practices. Tie ground wires

together and the Neutral wires together.

Contact Closure Connection

The 3-way input terminal on the Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer operates like a

contact input port. When the 3-way terminal is connected to the Neutral

wire, the device sees and auxiliary input “button press” programmed via

Aux / 3-way switch in LiteWare®.

The 3-way input is not high voltage and can be used as a contact input

port for other devices such as motion detectors or daylight sensors.

The output of the 3-way terminal on the Hybrid 3-way device operates like

a relay output to signal the main Hybrid Wall Box Dimmer that a button has

been pressed while maintaining the isolation required over ROMEX (high

voltage) wire. (See Fig. 11)

Note: - System must be programmed via LiteWare® to in order to

function as desired. LEDs will update per LiteWare®

programming.

- There are 64 available addresses per Hybrid Wall Box Systems.
