 JOKA KONNEC T Campus visit by First batch of IIM C On the occasion of Institute’s Golden Jubilee, The first batch of IIM Calcutta on 28 th  November to visited the campus and interacted with the student community. It was a nostalgic moment for the alumni, who graduated in 1966, to share their experiences with students. Prof. Shekhar Chaudhari, Director, IIM Calcutta felicitated the alumni and updated them on the developments that have happened at the campus over the years with respect to infrastructure, curriculum, research and other activities. During interaction Mr. G. Shankar, who runs his own consulting firm told students to make an informed career choice and make most of the opportunities that IIM C provides. Another alumnus, Mr. Nadkarni urged students to shed all burdens of past and enjoy their stay at IIM C. Other alumni who visited include Mr. Amolak Rattan Kohli, Former Governor of Mizoram, Mr. G.P.Rao, Founder Chairman, Spandan amongst others. Talk by Mr. Nitin Gadkari at IIM Calcutta BJP President Mr. Nitin Gadkari visited IIM Calcutta on 30 th  November to deliver a lecture on Politics of  Development . Mr. Gadkari talked about his tenure as PWD minister of Maharashtra and how he steered the development in the state. Citing numerous examples from his life, he held the audience rapt for two hours as he discussed models of development and how growth can be achieved despite political hurdles. Mr. Gadkari also stated that students from premier institutes like IIMs should come forward to join  politics for nation’s development.  His Holiness The Dalai Lama visits IIM Calcutta The hallowed portals of IIM Calcutta were graced by the presence of His Holiness, The 14 th  Dalai Lama of Tibet, as he arrived to deliver a speech on “A human approach to World Peace” on 1 st  December 2011 as a part of the 6 th  Institute Lecture Series. The words of wisdom from Dalai Lama resonated through the hearts of the students and made it a memorable day for many of them. Summer Placements 2011 in a nutshell  IIM Calcutta has reaffirmed itself as a sought after destination for recruiters with a record number of 160 firms visiting the campus for the summer pla cements out of which 66 were first t ime recruiters. The change in placement strategy from the compressed 5-day process to a 5-day process followed by a roll ing  process would be an important precedent for the future wh ere the batch size is expected to become even higher. There has also been a considerable increas e in the diversity in terms of sector and geography in the internship profiles offered. Not only a record number of 219 students got offers to do internship in Slot Zero, but also all 443 students who wished to take offers from the process got placed when the  process culminated.
