Facing the need for home health care is fright-ening for most people. The fear of losing con-trol of one’s household is a major concern. Champion Home Health Care, with offices in Vero Beach and Port St. Lucie, is aware of this reservation and has taken steps to ensure that the families they serve always feel in the com-mand.

“We guarantee our clients that they will be happy with our service and pleased with their caregivers,” explained Tom Michaels, owner and administrator. “Our mission is to help peo-ple live full, independent lives in the comfort of their own homes. Our caregivers are dedicated to providing personalized in-home care that en-riches our clients’ lives and helps them keep the highest possible level of independent liv-ing.”

Champion caregivers are screened in a highly selective interview process by Office Coordina-tor Bob Valentino. Competency checks, back-ground checks and in-service training ensure that only the best personnel will be represent-ing the health agency in people’s homes.

“We go beyond the state standards for employ-ment and only hire people who have the right motivation and interest in providing excellent care,” said Valentino.

Kathy Coneys, RN, Director of Nursing for Champion Home Health Care, echoes this sen-timent. “We only hire the best and are able to retain them by treating them with respect and developing a team atmosphere here,” Coneys said. “This allows us to provide superior care to our clients and has allowed us to develop a great reputation in our community.”

June 2009 Beth L. Mitchell, Executive Director

We celebrated National Tourism month in May, and there are many meaningful points of inter-est regarding how important tourism is for our community. Our chamber has over 125 busi-nesses who are categorized as tourism related, and dependant upon visitors coming to our area. The big picture is the same, the economic impact of visitors is perhaps not understood. Here are some statistics: Total Number of Visitors to Florida 2008 82.5 million Number of Floridians Employed 1,007,000 Amount Generated in Payroll $ 13.3 billion Total Sales Tax Revenue from Tourism $ 3.9 billion VISIT FLORIDA, the State tourism organization, has rolled out a new marketing plan that in-cludes www.ShareaLittleSunshine.org. Check out the videos and enter the drawing after you invite someone to visit Florida! Included in this newsletter is a flyer announcing the 2nd Annual Sebastian Grill Out Night Scheduled for August. If your business would like to participate, please fax the form back and we will include you in our advertising schedule! Our monthly lunch in June features a guest speaker who will be sharing very valuable informa-tion for our businesses. We have invited Angela S. Prioleau, from the United States Depart-ment of Agriculture, Rural Development to speak to us about grant money for businesses. This may be very helpful to some of our businesses who could potentially qualify for some of those federal stimulus dollars flowing our way. If you plan to attend, please make reservations, as we believe we may have a larger turnout than normal. Finally, we have garnered support form the Indian River County Commission, City of Sebas-tian, City of Fellsmere, Brevard County Commission, Micco and Barefoot Bay Homeowners Associations to apply for the extension of the Scenic Highway Designation to a 27 mile loop that encompasses Fellsmere. The application will be sent to the State of Florida this month, and hopefully it will be approved. If you would like more information about the National Sce-nic Byway Program, please visit their website at www.Byways.org.

Have a prosperous week!
