GREEN FACADEThe facade of the building will be highlighted by the green facade. The intent is to provide a balance between the permanent architecture facade and the evolving softening of the building through planting.

LANDSCAPE INTRODUCTION

The public realm at 20-22 Kintail Road will be a high quality, adaptable, lush space that invites residents and visitors to engage with on a variety of levels.

The design will take into account the site context and the physical siteconsiderations of grade, infrastructure, built components and access paths.

Consideration of the following landscape directives, objectives and concepts, have been incorporated into the design response and planned methodology for undertaking the landscape work as follows:

• Ensure the landscaping does not impede vehicles or sight-lines;• Assist the building functionality through the implementation of smart landscape intervention;• Provide high quality amenity including places for residents and visitors to inhabit and linger in.• Enhance street aesthetic along Kintail Road• Ensure landscaping interventions are included on each level within the development to reduce vertical stacking of built form.• Maximize the absorption of rainfall and surface water flows through soft-landscaping.

The public realm will be designed to balance the functional and aesthetic requirements associated to the building. The intention is to create a high quality space that has a highly visual aesthetic internally to create a pleasant outlook from within each apartment, and provide a comfortable, habitable external space on the ground floor.

Material selections will be of high quality, robust yet refined, and will be selected for life cycle efficiency.

The proposed planting palette within the development will be a mix of native and exotic species; selected primarily for their ability to thrive in potentially shady spaces. The plant selections will have a high visual amenity value and add to the aesthetic ideals of the various spaces.

PUBLIC REALM COMPONENTS

The following elements will make up the public realm design:VERGE PLANTING/RAIN GARDENSGreening on the verge will be a critical to the feel and functionality. In both the ‘Day One’ scenario and the road widening scenario, generous planting zones or rain gardens will be installed to create separation from the street and assist with drainage.

ALFRESCO AREASAlfresco areas will be a dominant feature in the public realm. The opportunity for residents and visitors to gather on the ground floor will be critical to the success of the space. The verge side furniture will be of a high quality to enhance the overall aesthetic and usability of the ground floor public realm. These seats will be designed to be adaptable to any future modifications to Kintail Road and the traffic management.

Verge planting/rain gardens

Sensory Gardens

Communal Food Growing Gardens

Alfresco gathering zones

SENSORY GARDENSThe landscaped zones on each level aim to read more as ‘gardens’ rather than ‘public realm’. Sensory gardens with appropriate planting palettes aim to be engaging and provide healing qualities to residents living with dementia or other ailments, but also generally create a pleasant place to dwell in.

COMMUNAL FOOD GROWING GARDENSThe roof terrace will incorporate user friendly raised planter beds for growing vegetables, herbs, and help building a community. This area will also have built in tables so residents can enjoy a meal in the heart of the community garden.
