0:01 Unit 7 introduces a method called 0:04 key word analysis, and this is particularly useful 0:08 for identifying words which are characteristic 0:12 of a text or a set of texts. It essentially involves generating 0:18 a word frequency list for the texts that we're interested in. 0:21 And then comparing the frequency of the words in our text, 0:26 with the frequency of the same words in 0:29 a reference corpus. 0:32 What we're interested in doing here is identifying 0:35 those words which are used disproportionately more often 0:40 in the texts that we're interested in, 0:44 or less often. And those words might have some sort of 0:48 special significance for those texts. 0:52 It's usually an inroad into the text, 0:56 rather than the endpoint of our analysis. 0:59 So, just because we identify a word that's used 1:03 more frequently in a certain text it, doesn't really tell us 1:07 why it's being used frequently. 1:10 So it's usually...keyword analysis is usually followed by 1:15 concordance analysis and this can provide 1:18 useful insights into what the text is about.
