First the Facts: What History Tells Us

The National Golf Foundation has been tracking golf statistics for the US Golfing Population for more than 30 years.

Despite all the changes in equipment and instructional technology, improvements to courses and conditions, and an increased availability of instructional information, golfers are NOT improving.

In fact, as a whole, they’re statistically getting worse.

#1 MOST GOLFERS DON’T REALLY UNDERSTAND THE GOLF SWING

You watch golf, you practice and you play, but you don’t really understand the dynamics of what is really happening at 70-90 mph during the golf swing.

There are thousands of books and millions of online articles that have been created to help you… or have they?

Did any they have your name on them? Or did you put your name in the search box? I doubt it! All those tips and tricks will not help you in the long run. It’s like putting a sticking plaster on a major cut, it may stop the bleeding, but not for long!

That applies both to professionals and your well-intentioned buddies.

For many golfers, lessons would appear to be counterproductive. Why? Because golf instructors tend to share too much technical information.

Plus your buddies are, well they are your buddies!

There are plenty of knowledgeable golf coaches. A great golf coach will guide you through the learning process. You are unique and it is your swing!

A good swing takes practice…there’s a hint to #3

This is a great tip!Write this one down!

#2 Golf coaches/teachers are lost

#3. Improper PracticeHave you noticed before going to the first tee, professionals go on the range and putting green – so do you don’t you?

How many times have you gone to the range and just hit 100 or more balls and left? You didn’t really have a specific reason for even being there! You showed up, hacked some balls, and left.

So on to the putting green - then you go and practice missing, not holing putts!

Your practice routine doesn’t simulate real play. There is no consequence when you play a poor shot on the range, or miss a putt.

In effect you train yourself to play poor golf! Well done! You’ve succeeded. It was all down to you after all… another hint.

#4. Too stubborn to accept instruction

#5. Poor Course Strategy

Stubborn? Not you? Think again, no one’s listening so tell yourself the truth.

Most golfers believe that they can do it on their own. Some are so good they don’t have to practice. While this may be true, there will always be a point where expert advice may be necessary.

Even the professionals have a caddy to help them! Or maybe you think caddies are there to just carry the bag.

Go for a lesson or group coaching session to help improve your swing and your game.

Now there’s the challenge - based on reason #2 you may have to take your time in finding the right coach to help you!

Do you play smart golf? How many times have you played a hole or a shot, and never really took every-thing into consideration?

Also, trying to make that 1 in 1,000 shot you’ve never practiced before and you have no confidence in pulling it off.

Jack Nicklaus famously said “Success depends almost entirely on how effec-tively you learn to manage the game’s two ultimate adversaries: the course and yourself.”

Getting the message yet? Oh No! We don’t mention your clubs – too easy guys!

#6. Do not maintain proper fitness

Lack of flexibility and core strength is one of the causes for poor golf swings. Without an appropriate level of fitness, improvement of any kind is difficult if not impossible.

If you’re serious (mmm… maybe that’s #8) try the gym, Yoga or some type of regimen that combines flexibility training as well as strength training.

#7. Happy with the status quo or lack of tangible goals

In order to improve, you have to want to im-prove.

Without a goal or direction, practice, play and any program is going to be ineffective.

Take notice where you are today.

Make a goal for where you want to be at some point in the future, and then go for it.

So finally, if you have decided you do not want to improve then please don’t moan and groan about poor results! Just go and have fun.

Now it’s up to you! You can choose the Ending

You can leave it there, just go and have fun. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed it. OR…
