7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
Is a book by Sean Covey that provides the opportunity to explore
the development of positive habits that help secure and maintain a
productive life.
I teach this class two days a week as a related arts class for the 8th
grade.
Habits are things we do repeatedly, but most of the time we are
hardly aware that we have them. Some habits are good such as:
Exercising
Planning ahead
And some are not so good:
Staying up late at night
Smoking
Blaming others
Some habits do not matter:
Reading magazines from back to front
Eating pudding with a fork
We look at habits that will help them to do well in school.
HABIT 1 Be Proactive
HABIT 2 Begin with the End in Mind
HABIT 3 Put First Things First
HABIT 4 Think Win – Win
HABIT 5 Seek first to Understand, Then to be Understood
HABIT 6 Synergize
HABIT 7 Sharpen the Saw
One of Covey’s favorite quote comes from Bob Moawad which states,
“You can’t make footprints in the sands of time by sitting on your butt, And who wants to leave buttprints in the sands of time?”
