NO TWO DIAMONDS ARE ALIKE

The price of a diamond is determined by four main

factors. They are also known as 4C: carat, color, clarity

and cut. The value of diamonds is also impacted by other

parameters pertaining to gemstones – the processing, the

symmetry, the fluorescence and the certification type.

According to color, diamonds fall into twelve categories

ranging from top class white diamonds to colored diamonds.

Clarity is determined by the number of inclusions,

which fall into seven categories. It is worth keeping in

mind all parameters. The price of two identically large

diamonds may vary as much as threefold due to different

color and clarity.


CUT

The quality of a cut is one of the main criteria that

jewelers use to rate diamonds. Cut determines how

a diamond will reflect light. The better the cut the

more the diamond sparkles. A perfectly cut diamond

is brilliant all over, plus you can also observe some

rainbow flashes which are created by the mutual

reflection and refraction of light that bounces off

the individual facets.

CARAT

Diamond weight is measured in carat (1 carat = 0,2 g).

The price of two identically large diamonds may differ

significantly in price if they are of a different clarity, color

or cut quality. A smaller but higher quality gemstone might

be more valuable than a bigger diamond with significant

flaws. Smaller sized diamonds occur in nature more

frequently than bigger ones and thus the price of a weightier

diamond of the same parameters could be higher.

COLOR

A colorless diamond is considered the perfect diamond.

It distributes the falling light the best, thus creating rainbow

flashes also known as “fire”. Most naturally occurring

diamonds have some color that is caused by tiny debris

inside the stone. Natural color diamonds are an exception.

The color here is desirable and the price is several times

higher than those of white diamonds.

CLARITY

Almost all diamonds contain minor imperfections,

be it microscopic scratches or traces of other minerals.

We consider a “perfect” stone to be one that has no

external or internal flaws when magnified ten times.

Absolutely faultless diamonds are extremely rare.

CLEAR DIAMOND

The king of all precious stones – that is what a diamond is. The hardest mineral known to man is a form of carbon. It is created under extreme temperatures and pressure and this is a reason why diamonds are also found in extinct stars in space. Chemically pure diamonds are perfectly colorless. A large and clear diamond has since time immemorial been the synonym of uniqueness and value.

BLUE DIAMOND

A blue diamond will bring a similar prestige to your family heirloom. It is a unique and valuable mineral, which owes its special coloring to traces of boron. It is not a coincidence that the most famous diamond in the world is this shade – the Hope Diamond. Weighing more than 9 grams, it was made famous amongst others by King Louis XIV. Blue diamonds are one of the priciest diamonds in the world.

DEEP YELLOW DIAMOND

A diamond is the only gemstone that is found in all color modifications. Some color diamonds are so rare that the usual 4C evaluation (carat, clarity, color, cut) does not apply to them and they can be more expensive than perfectly colorless diamonds. A typical example is the deep yellow diamond, which gains its unique color from nitrogen impurities.

RUBY

A ruby the color of pigeon blood, meaning a deep red color with a slightly bluish tint, is the dream of every gemstone lover. This highly prized variety of corundum with chromium, which is the cause of the breathtaking shades it can attain, can be even more valuable than large diamonds when it is found in top quality and more than a carat in weight.

SAPPHIRE

Sapphires boast the fact that they cover the entire color spectrum. This valuable corundum attains unique shades of pink, blue, orange, yellow or a greenish hue thanks to certain amounts of iron, chromium, copper or magnesium. The most valuable sapphires are blue, where the color comes from titanium and iron, but also the salmon-red paparadscha sapphires, colored by iron and chromium. Their prices are comparable with ruby.

EMERALD

A stunning green gemstone – it could only be an emerald. The name comes from smaragdos, the ancient Greek word for green. This unique stone is the most expensive variety of beryl and the gorgeous coloration is caused by its chromium content. Large dark green emeralds fetch higher prices than clear diamonds of the same size.

TANZANITE

Tanzanite is one of the rarest shades of blue found anywhere in the world of gemstones. This unique silicate, which is mined in only one place in the world, owes its stunning hue to trace amounts of strontium. Its deposits found in the shadow of the Kilimanjaro will soon be exhausted, which continues to constantly increase the value of tanzanite.
