The LAOWATER Seminar and Technology Symposium 2018 will be co-located with LAOWATER 2018, with the objec�ve of providing technical knowledge on the latest advances in water management, commercial & industrial wastewater treatment and sanita�on. The programme will feature a panel of top interna�onal speakers, and will provide a forum for the introduc�on of new innova�on and advances in water and wastewater management into the country. Laos’ growth rate is projected to rise to 7% in 2018 - Asian Development Bank.In July 2017, the World Bank and the Ministry of Finance signed a deal for financial aid worth USD 25million for the Mekong Integrated Water Resources Management. Laos has established the Na�onal Water Resources Strategy 2020.Ini�a�ves have been taken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to manage fisheries, hydropower, irriga�on and water supply resources in a sustainable manner.Water usage: 82% for agriculture, 10% for industrial, 8% for domes�c use.Current Government-supported projects include river basin modelling, flood control infrastructure upgrades, the establishment of regula�ons to support the applica�on of the revised Water Law, and se�ng up a na�onal water quality laboratory programme. Laos’ foreign direct investment is mainly in electricity genera�on, agriculture, mining, infrastructure projects and Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

As one of the fastest growing economies in East Asia,

with a projected growth rate of 7.0% in 2018, and a popula�on reaching 7 million, the need arises for Laos to

haveadequate rural and urban water supply and sanita�on manage-ment and protec�on of water quality and ecosystem.This is a key focus of the

Government as the development of the water sector will result in the sustainability of the country’s wetlands, fisheries and aqua�c resources and ul�mately lead to achieving the socio-economic development targets for the Lao people.
