ADVANTAGES :- 1. Electric furnace make heat readily available and

attain much higher temp.2. Electric furnace have greater efficiency .3. Temp and atmosphere can be easily controlled.4. The furnace has flexibility in operation .5. It is operated with cold as well as hot charges .6. Alloying additions may be charged in the furnace

vessel .

DISADVANTAGES:-1. The process is not so fast as basic oxygen furnace

process 2. It is uneconomical unless electric powder is available

at the cheaper rate and in plenty .3. Its cost is more then that of the open hearth furnace

process.4. Many furnace have smaller capacity.

APPLICATION :-Electric furnace are used for the production of all stainless steel ,carbon steels, heat resistance steels, alloy steels, tool steels and special alloy steels.
