Mary, Our Lady and Mother, with your appearance at Guadalupe you were as the bright dawn announcing the rising sun, Jesus Christ, in a new way to North America. As we renew our efforts for the new evangelization in our diocese we ask you, as our Patroness, to intercede for us to the Father. Teach us to follow Jesus and generously receive the Holy Spirit that we might be faithful members of the Body of Christ, the Church. Help us make our parishes and our homes to be centers of apostolic love and merciful outreach in search of that Truth that sets us free. Blessed Virgin be with us so that our humble efforts be blessed by divine grace and we may become effective instruments for the glory of the Holy Trinity, Whom we implore in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns world without end. Amen.

“That every Catholic in our Diocese attentively listen to the Lord and promptly respond with a generous heart, as did Mary in the most perfect way, and so heed our role as disciples to evangelize the world by speaking the word of God and keeping it ourselves.” Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

“Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother’ and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. Seeing his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her, Jesus said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold your son’. Then to the disciple he said, ‘Behold, your mother’. And from that moment the disciple made a place for her in his home.”

child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, ‘Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honored with a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.’”

“That every Catholic in our diocese recognize that Jesus Christ has made himself our brother, like us in all things but sin, that we might live as Children of God who are so filled with the Good News that we are eager to bring it to others as Mary brought Jesus to her cousin Elizabeth.” Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

There was a prophetess also, Anna the daughter of Phenuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was well on in years. Her days of girlhood over, she had been married for seven years before becoming a widow. She was now eighty-four years old and never left the Temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayer. She came by just at that moment and began to praise God; and she spoke of the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem. When they had done everything the Law of the Lord required, they went back to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. Meanwhile the child grew to maturity, and he was filled with wisdom; and God’s favor was with him.”

They assumed he was with the caravan, and it was only after a day’s journey that they went to look for him among their relations and acquaintances. When they failed to find him they went back to Jerusalem looking for him everywhere. Three days later, they found him in the Temple, sitting among the doctors, listening to them, and asking them questions; and all those who heard him were astounded at his intelligence and his replies. They were overcome when they saw him, and his mother said to him, ‘My child, why have you done this to us? See how worried your father and I have been, looking for you.’ ‘Why were you looking for me?’ he replied ‘Did you not know that I must so be busy with my Father’s affairs?’ But they did not understand what he meant. He then went down with them and came to Nazareth and lived under their authority. His mother stored up all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and men.”

“Three days later there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The mother of Jesus was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited. When they ran out of wine, since the wine provided for the wedding was all finished, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine’. Jesus said, ‘Woman, why turn to me? My hour has not come yet.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you’. There were six stone water jars standing there, meant for the ablutions that are customary among the Jews; each could hold twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water’, and they filled them to the brim. ‘Draw some out now’ he told them ‘and take it to the steward.’ They did this; the steward tasted the water, and it had turned into wine. Having no idea where it came from – only the servants who had drawn the water knew – the steward called the bridegroom and said, ‘People generally serve the best wine first, and keep the cheaper sort till the guests have had plenty to drink; but you have kept the best wine till now’. This was the first of the signs given by Jesus; it was given at Cana in Galilee. He let his glory be seen, and his disciples believed in him. After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and the brothers, but they stayed there only a few days.”
