Dr. JuanC.Duchesne joined the full-time faculty inMarchof2017as aProfessorof Surgery at Tulane
UniversitySchoolofMedicine.Priortorecentlyjoiningthefull-timefacultyatTulane,Dr.Duchesnewasa
ClinicalAssociateProfessorofSurgeryatTulane, theGraduateMedicalEducationDirectorandMedical
DirectoroftheShockTraumaProgramatNorthOaksMedicalCenterinHammond,Louisiana.Hejoined
NorthOaksMedicalCenterinJuneof2013andhasbeenonTulane'sDepartmentofSurgeryfacultysince
December 2006.He received his undergraduate education at theUniversity of Puerto Rico (Humacao,
PuertoRico)andhisMedicalDegreefromPonceSchoolofMedicine(Ponce,PuertoRico).Dr.Duchesne
didhisgeneralsurgeryresidencyandfellowshiptrainingattheLouisianaStateUniversityHealthScience
Center(NewOrleans,LA).Followinghisfellowshiptrainingin2005,Dr.DuchesnewasAssistantProfessor
of Surgery in the Department of Surgery/Trauma/Critical Care at TheUniversity ofMississippiMedical
Center(Jackson,MS).Whilethere,hereceivedtheOutstandingClinicalResearchAchievementAward.He
currentlyservesasChairoftheCommitteeofTraumafortheLouisianachapterwiththeAmericanCollege
of Surgeons andCritical CareChair for LouisianaOrganProcurementAgency (LOPA) to provideoverall
strategicguidancetotheorganization.Hehaspresentedhisresearchresultsatnationalandinternational
traumaandcriticalcaresurgicalconferences.Dr.Duchesneiswellpublished,havingover90publications
andmorethan100nationalandinternationalguestspeakerinvitations.

Course.HewasaneditorofthefirsteditionoftheATOMCourse,servedastheChairoftheACS
AdvancedTraumaOperativeManagement(ATOM)Coursefrom2015-2018,andiscurrentlyan
editorofthe3rdedition.Hehasco-authoredpublicationsonnumeroustraumatopicsincluding
blunthepatictrauma,transthoraciclungherniationinblunttrauma,morbidobesityinsurgeryand
trauma,emergencyandhazmatpreparedness,andtheimplementationoftheATOMCourse.
Dr.Gross ismarried,hastwochildren,andtwogranddaughters. Heandhiswiferaisequarter
horses,andenjoyworkingtheirfarm,showinghorsesontheAmericanQuarterHorseAssociation
circuit,andaboveall,spendingasmuchtimewithfamilyandfriendsastheycan.

Dr.EmilyNicholsisboardcertifiedinbothadultandpediatricemergencymedicineandisableto
careforpersonsofallagesduringtheirsickestmoments.Shehasalsostudiedpublichealth;her
careerinterestsincludepublichealth,disasterresponse,andproviderwellness.Dr.Nicholshas
workedincommunityclinicsinurbanandruralsettingsintheUS,CostaRica,Belize,Haiti,Brazil,
andSouthAfrica.ShewasanintegralpartofreliefeffortsinPort-au-PrinceHaitiduringthe2010
earthquake,andin2014shetaughtemergencyresponse,firstaid,and“trainthetrainer”courses
to responders in Northern Haiti. Dr. Nichols has lectured nationally on the topics of provider
wellnessandsecondarytraumatization;shehaslecturedinternationallyonthedevelopmentof
911 systems and emergency medicine in the United States. Dr. Nichols brings a breadth of
supervisoryandemergencymedicineexperiencetoNewOrleansEMS.Dr.NicholsvaluestheEMS
ContinuumofCareandtheroleofEMSinhealthcare,publicsafety,andpublichealth.Shelooks
forwardtoworkingtoprovideoutstanding,equitableprehospitalcaretotheresidentsandvisitors

SouthCarolina.HeisanAssistantProfessorattheUniversityofNewOrleansandjoinedUNOin
AugustafterspendingfouryearsattheUniversityofMountOlive.In2014,heretiredasaClinical
AssistantProfessor fromtheUniversityofNorthCarolinaSchoolofMedicine. Hispublications
include 69 textbook chapters, books, and articles found in various healthcare disaster and
emergencypreparednessjournals.Dr.KearnsbeganhiscareerasanEMT,paramedic,volunteer
firefighterandrescuechief.

StaceyL.Holman,MD,isagraduateofLSUtimesthree(undergrad,SchoolofMedicine,andResidency).
She istheAssociateResidencyProgramDirectorfortheDepartmentofObstetrics&GynecologyatLSU
HealthinNewOrleans.Withinthedepartment,Dr.HolmanservesastheQualityImprovementchampion
responsible for the engagement of residents and faculty in QI and patient safety projects. She is very
involved with QI at the institutional level, serving as chair of the Surgical Site Infection Prevention
CommitteeatUMC,memberoftheSurgicalPeerReviewCommitteeforUMC,andrepresentativeforLSU
ontheOBQualityCommitteeatTouroInfirmary.ShecurrentlyholdsafacultypositionwithintheLouisiana
PerinatalQualityCollaborative,workingtoimprovematernalmorbidityinthestate.Dr.Holmanholdsthe
positionofWomen'sHealthCenterDirectoratUniversityMedicalCenterNewOrleans.Inthisrole,sheis
responsibleforleadershipintheareasofqualityimprovement,collaborativepracticewithotherservices
as it relates to our patient population, clinical operations in the inpatient and outpatient setting, and
credentialing/privilegingofourspecialtygroupofphysicians.Dr.Holmanhasbeentherecipientofseveral
awards for mentorship/teaching by medical students and residents including the Pessary Award for
ResidentMentorship,theAesculapianSocietyJuniorFacultyAward,andtheSASGOGAwardforGeneralist
Faculty.

Dr. Lance Stuke is a trauma surgeon at theNorman E.McSwain, Jr Spirit of Charity Trauma Center at
UMCNO.Priortoattendingmedicalschool,heworkedforseveralyearsasaparamedicfortheCityofNew
Orleans.HeattendedmedicalschoolatTulaneUniversity,completedageneralsurgeryresidencyatthe
University of Texas-Southwestern/Parkland Hospital in Dallas, and returned to New Orleans for his
trauma/critical care fellowship at LSU. He has a research interest in prehospital trauma, has written
numeroustextbookchaptersonprehospitalcare,andisaGovernor’sappointeetotheStateofLouisiana
EMSCertifyingCommission.HeisanAssociateProfessorofSurgeryatLSUandistheProgramDirectorfor
theLSUgeneralsurgeryresidency.

L.J.RelleisacareerFirefighter/ParamedicservingtheGreaterNewOrleansareaforover12years.Heisa
veteranresponderofHurricaneKatrinaandmanyotherman-madeandnaturaldisasters.L.J.beganhis
career in theFire Servicewhilehe studiedat Southeastern LouisianaUniversitywhereheobtainedhis
Bachelor'sDegreeinBusinessAdministration.L.J.hasworkedinvariousrolesinhighcallvolumeFire/EMS
agencies, which has attributed to his experience and passion for improving response, training, and
management in emergency medicine. L.J. currently serves as an EMS and AHA Instructor for a 170-
Member,InternationallyAccreditedFire/EMSAgency.

Devon Relle is a dual-trained Flight Paramedic and Registered Nurse with Acadian's AirMed Program.
HavingworkedinEMSandacutecareforover14years,Devongotherstartworkinginabusy,metropolitan
EMS system, then transitioned into the hospital setting as a Pediatric Emergency RoomRN, andmost
recently, is working as a flight care provider. Devon remains involved in her community by providing
educationtolocalpublicsafetyagencies.SheisamemberoftheAACN,ASTNA,ENA,andNAPNAP,andshe
holdsaCertifiedFlightRegisteredNurse(CFRN)certification.DevongraduatedfromTulaneUniversitywith
aBSin2007andiscurrentlyenrolledinanMSNProgramthroughtheUniversityofAlabamaatBirmingham.
Sheistrainingtobecomedual-certifiedasbothanAcuteandPrimaryCarePediatricNursePractitioner.

PoliceDepartment.AgraduateofLSUSchoolofMedicine,Dr.ElderbeganhiscareerinEMSwhiletraining
asaresidentinEmergencyMedicineatLouisianaStateUniversityHealthSciencesCenter.Whileworking
withsomeofthebestparamedicsinthecountry,helearnedhowadvancesinprehospitalmedicinecan
drive in-hospital emergency medical care. He is board certified in both Emergency Medicine with
subspecialtyboardcertifiedinEmergencyMedicalServicesbytheAmericanBoardofEmergencyMedicine.
His interests include advanced airway techniques and training, prehospital time sensitive illness, and
prehospitalcardiacarrestsurvival.

atransitionalyearinternshipattheNavalMedicalCenterSanDiegoandthenspendingthenextseveral
yearsonactivedutyasFlightSurgeon.WhileintheNavy,Megparticipatedinhumanitarianmissionsinthe
WesternPacificanddeployedmultipletimesinsupportofOperationsIraqiandEnduringFreedom.Her
experiencesinIraqandAfghanistanledherultimatelytopursueacareerinTraumaSurgery.Shecompleted
her residency in General Surgery at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, Pennsylvania prior to
movingtoNewOrleanswhereshedidherfellowshiptraininginTraumaandSurgicalCriticalCareatLSU
andisnowonthefacultyintheSectionofTraumaandCriticalCareSurgery.Megremainsinthemilitary

years. Over his year career he has worked on ambulances, in Trauma Centers and has been an EMS
Educatorforover20years.After6yearsasChiefofChicagoHeightsFireDepartment,heacceptedthe
positionofAdvancedTraumaLifeSupportProgramfortheAmericanCollegeofSurgeonsin2006.In2012
hewasaskedtocreatethePerformance improvementdivisionattheACSandcontinuestoserveas its
directortoday.He’sservedontheboardofDirectorsof theNationalAssociationofEMTs, theNational
AssociationofEMSEducatorsandtheSocietyofTraumaNurses.HeservedastheChairofthePrehospital
TraumaLifeSupportprogramforover20years.Hehaspublishednumeroustextsandjournalarticlesand
