Deirdre Edgell (Artistic Director & Extreme Director)

Deirdre Edgell formed Got Strings? Youth Orchestra in January 2008 out of a desire to create a unique cutting-edge youth orchestra and give more back to the community through her teaching efforts. It is the goal of Got Strings? to give free concerts for local nursing and retirement communities and provide three annual family concerts. Deirdre holds a Bachelor’s Degree in

Violin Performance from Ohio University and has almost thirty years of teaching and professional performance experience. She held principal positions for 12 years with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (Charleston), followed by six years with the Johnstown and Altoona Symphonies. Deirdre has previously held conductor and management positions with The West Virginia Youth Orchestra; was Assistant Conductor & Publicity Manager with The Young Musicians Community Orchestra (YMCO; Lansdale); and was the Artist-In-Residence in the Logan County (WV) public schools for 9 years, where she fostered a 16-school county-wide string program that included 120 students. In addition to freelancing locally & directing Got Strings?, Deirdre is the owner, consultant, contractor, and lead violinist with The Westwoods Ensemble and maintains an in-home private teaching studio. She is also available for workshops and various educational string classes. Deirdre was honored to have been selected as a guest conductor at the 2011 Bucks County String Day.

Auld Lang Syne (Times Gone By)

Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should old acquaintance be forgot, and old lang syne?

Chorus

For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we'll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup! and surely I’ll buy mine ! And we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.

Chorus

We two have run about the slopes, and picked the daisies fine; But we’ve wandered many a weary foot, since auld lang syne.

Chorus

We two have paddled in the stream, from morning sun till dine; But seas between us broad have roared since auld lang syne.

Chorus

And there’s a hand my trusty friend! And give us a hand o’ thine! And we’ll take a right good-will draught, for auld lang syne.
