Messiah to be presented Sunday by community choir The Cary Community Choir joins together for the 23rd year to present a Christmas tradition.
The Cary Community Choir will give its annual presentation of the Christmas portion of Handel's "Messiah" on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. at White P lains United Methodist Church on Maynard Rci: in Cary.
This choir was fonned 23 years ago and has gathered singers from the Cary area each year since to give this perfonnance.
Returnirig as conductor will be Charles Gatwood. Charles, who graduated frOm Indiana University, has conducted the group for 21 years. Shelbyville, Kentucky, Mount Harmony Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee and church organist at First Baptist Church in Greenville, Tennessee and is presently minister of music at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church in Cary.
Also returning for the second time will be Larry Speakman as bass soloist. He is a graduate of Westminister Choir College and Temple University. He has been

soloist with The Westministerl Choir, the Philadelphia Singers and at the Spoleto Festival il\ South Carolina. Speakman is, director of music at White Plains, United Methodist Church in Cary, and is also the conductor of the. concert singers of Cary.
This perfonnance is open to the public without charge but a freewill offering will be taken at the door following the presentation.
