26th annual Mariposa Storytelling Festival P.O. Box 2134 Mariposa CA 95338 Return Service Requested NON-PROFIT ORG. U.S. POSTAGE PAID PERMIT #56 MARIPOSA CA 26th Mariposa Storytelling Festival March 8-10, 2013 www.arts-mariposa.org Historic Mariposa & Yosemite National Park Meet our 26th Festival Storytellers Donald Davis (NC) was born in an Appalachian mountain world rich in stories. “I didn’t learn stories, I just absorbed them,” he says as he recounts growing up hearing gentle fairy tales, silly Jack tales, scary mountain lore, ancient folktales, and nourishing true-to-life stories of his own neighbors and kin. A favorite master storyteller at festivals across the nation, Donald is making his fifth appearance in Mariposa. Angela Lloyd (CA) One of the most unique performers on the storytelling circuit today, she has been featured at the National Storytelling Festival and regularly appears at festivals and theatres across the U.S. Her performances are a whimsical braid of story, song and poetry played on washboard, autoharp, guitar, spoon and bell. Angela’s stories are adventures into her amazing world of people and places, and those who jump aboard for the trip are always delighted. Patrick Ball (CA) is one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world and a captivating spoken word artist. In playing the ancient, legendary brass- strung harp of Ireland with its crystalline, bell-like voice, and in performing marvelous tales of wit and enchantment, he not only brings new life to two cherished traditions, but blends them in concert to create “a richly theatrical and hauntingly beautiful performance.” Laura Pershin Raynor (MI) has been featured at the Celebration of Light, Timpa- nogos, Colonial Williamsburg and National Storytelling festivals. A Children’s Librarian, Laura brings to life the colorful cast of characters from her unique and loving family. Her Grandma Dinah, who lived to be 105 years old, raised her on the tales of the Old Country, providing Laura with a landscape for her own stories, told in an animated and intimate style. Lyn Ford (OH) is an award winning storyteller who shares folktale adaptations, spooky tales and original stories from her family’s African American multicultural heritage. Her “Home Fried Tales” are seasoned with humor and heart; dessert is her special gift of joy. When she is not telling across the U.S., Lyn is a story artist with the Columbus Arts Council and a Thurber House mentor for young authors. David Novak (NC) has been a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival and festivals across the country and internationally from Hong Kong to the Czech Republic. A former Master Storyteller for the Disney Institute at Walt Disney World, David creates unique experiences to entertain imaginations, engage emotion and discover common ground. “In him, The Brothers Grimm and Carl Jung meet Monty Python.”
