As well as watching the Deadly Dancers, students rotated through activities such as weaving and rock art painting. Congratulations to Charli, Townes, Soufyan and Erin who all received ‘Deadly’ awards. Preschool Visit Ms Perin and some of our year 1 students visited Ocean Shores Preschool last week for a morning of reading and craft. Year 1 read to the pre-schoolers, played in the preschool playground together and then made ‘spaghetti men’ from cups, rubber gloves and straws to show the air their body was breathing out. It was a terrific lead in activity for the pre-schoolers who were about to begin a unit on how their bodies work. Thank you to our mums who took time out of their busy day to drive us there and back. Headlands Athletics The Pocket school had a team of students who qualified for the Headlands District Athletics carnival last Friday. Our junior girls relay team had a nail biter with video footage needed to determine 1st and 2nd. Erin claimed 1st in the junior girls high jump and she was also crowned the Headlands District junior girls champion. What an amazing effort! Thank you for representing our school, showing respect of others at all times. Our 2019 team: Asali, Heidi, Sophia, Jess, Erin, Teo, Duke, Alex, Ryan, Mason, Zara, Taj, Tei. Congratulations to Asali, Jess, Sophia, Erin, Mason and Alex who will be competing at the Zone carnival on Friday 23 August. Broader Bundjalung Language The Pocket School is currently putting a proposal together to bring Broader Bundjalung Language into our classrooms. Davina Mason, our former kindy teacher, has been nominated to be our tutor. Please join us on Thursday morning in the COLA at 9am for more information and to show your support of this initiative. Ms Perin is available to answer questions if you can’t make it on Thursday by calling the school. Expectation Week 4: I am responsible and safe when I wear a hat in the playground. Week 5: I am respectful when I show good sportsmanship; win or lose. Aquil has been working hard on his reading skills and last Friday read to Kindergarten. Well done Aquil for this achievement!! For the last month Years 2/3/4/5/6 have been working hard on Spelling Bee activities. It was amazing to see and hear children so excited about the strategies of Spelling. Pictured are our finalists. Congratulations to Marley, Tiger, Jess and Sophia who will be representing us at the Regional Finals!! Quick Check! K to 6 at The Pocket has been busy creating art works and 4 students from each year group were selected to represent us at the Ocean Shores Art Expo to be held @Ocean Shores School on Saturday 24 August. Assembly Our next assembly is on Friday 23 August, hosted by Kindergarten.
